LITERALLY A SOLID PRODUCT
While I have not used it yet in a recovery, it is clear its a solid piece of engineering. Arrived clean & without blemish in its own box...which I will use to store it in my Suburban to keep from rattling around. 'Business' end with the shackle is perfectly formed, rotates nicely and is finely finished. Other 'Business' end into receiver is a solid hunk of steel, not hollow. I am confident in its ability to 'do the job', worth the $$ for peace of mind & reliability.

Great vehicle recovery accessory
This is a nice solid hitch receiver mount D-ring shackle. The D-ring is exactly the same as the 3/4 inch ones Smittybilt sells, which I've had good luck with. The receiver mount is a solid cast hunk of metal. This has been used on my 2002 Tacoma, 1988 4Runner, and 1998 4Runner, and fit in the hitch receiver on all three as I would expect. I've used this in only one vehicle recovery, but have also used it in moving dead trucks around, and in various work around our property. I've chipped off some paint on the shackle, but expect nothing less when pulling things with metal chain/cables. It has not seen a ton of use, but has held up very well.

Fits fine in a 2015 Toyota 4Runner, good quality
I purchased this for a 2015 4Runner and it fits fine and seems like it will work well. It seems that the negative reviews about size variations are from a few years ago, and based on the one I received, they seem to have the size right. The main block on mine (drawbar?) measures 1.90 inches wide and 1.97 inches tall. My 4Runner hitch measures 2.08 inches wide and tall, so there is about 1/8" of extra space between the receiver and the drawbar. Without a pin, there is quite a bit of play, but with the pin inserted, it's pretty snug. As reviewer Marcus noted, on the 4Runner, the receiver pin isn't very far back, so this hitch will stick out quite a bit. Since I don't plan on using it regularly, I am keeping mine inside the 4Runner, so I'm not going to bother drilling an extra hole. The metal surface is not smooth, like the Amazon product photo. The powder coated surface looks like a really heavy orange peel / hammered paint texture. But the powder coating feels very thick and heavy, and I don't care about how smooth it is, so it's good enough for me. Overall, it seems like it is very good quality.

Nice heavy unit. Get one if you pull or tow.
Heavy Duty and worth the money. I did read some reviews of others who complained after one month on the back of the vehicle it rusted. Personally I wouldn't have it installed until I needed to pull something with my strap or chain. Also I read one where the guy complained the screw pin fell out and he lost the D-ring after one day of 4x4 ing, The instructions clearly state to wrench tighten the bolt pin so you don't lose it. MY suggestion is keep the unit in the vehicle storage compartment until needed so you don't lose it, it wont rust, or be stolen. The bolt pin has a hole in it that you could use a piece of wire through it and the D ring so the pin couldn't come out but...... anyways, I like it.. BTW, do not forego this and use your trailer ball to pull, yank, or tow anything besides a trailer. I've seen too many trailer hitch balls bent downward from such nonsense.

Great Product, Too much Paint
This is a heavy, sturdy product easily capable of the job as described. The only problem I had was that it just barely didn't fit in my receiver. The finish on the product felt like it had a ton of paint on it and even through the paint the surface was rough in most places. The item didn't fit in my 2 inch receiver hitch (2012 Toyota Tundra). It actually got stuck in the hitch and I used a hammer to knock it loose. The hammer nicked off the paint and I could see it was very thick. I used a bench grinder to remove the paint and smooth out some of the rough spots (took maybe 5 minutes). I then re-painted it and it fits like a glove.

Well Built. Does the job.
Great for the price. It fit just fine in my 2" receiver. Used this to tow a wife's friend's van to the transmission shop. Used tow strap Faswin Recovery Strap - 20,000 Lb Capacity (2" X 20' 20000lb) and worked great. I will keep this recovery hitch in my truck and may use it when relatives need pulled out when we get blizzards. It is made in China but appears to be good quality. My father-in-law saw it and asked me to order him one so he can keep one in his truck. May be using this to pull some logs out when I cut wood this spring too.

Love it!
Pros: Very sturdy, strong hitch Fantastically mobile and useful The D-Ring is solid and the removable shackle unscrews nicely Cons: None Sometimes Smittybilt gets a bad rap from true, hard-core offroaders, but I must say I'm very impressed with the materials quality and the quality of the design of this Smittybilt hitch. I wanted a removable hitch and liked the price of the Smittybilt. In this case, I must say that I came from the price....but left impressed with the quality. Well done Smitty!

It’s a Smittybilt can’t really go wrong!
Looks like a good item and I couldn’t really expect much less out of Smittybilt! only thing that I can see that is probably going to issue with this product is the finish on it, but if you’re a real off road kinda person does it really matter! As long as you get yanked out of the place you’re stuck & get home it’s all worth it in the long run!

Strong and durable
Like it says, strong and durable. Stays on the truck all year, hasnt rusted in the winters, and works well as a strong tow point.
