Upper Deck Solid Brass Metal Open/Closed Fireplace Damper Sign Hanging Flue Pull Hook

My husband decided to create a reminder of whether the flue is open or closed. He wrote on a paper bag and wedged it between the hearth and the fire screen. I gave him this for Christmas. He was very enthusiastic! It is attractive and is a clear reminder to open the flue. The description says you can leave it in the fireplace and it will withstand the heat, but it hangs down further than we like so he hangs it on the fire screen when the fire is burning, then hangs it on the flue when he closes it.

I always hated reaching up into the chimney, where I could not see, to close the flue. The best surprise was that that almost immediately after turning off the burner, I can touch this handle and it is not hot!!

Nothing magic about this. Does what it was meant to do- Indicates "Damper Open" or "Damper Closed". What is special is the quality of the item- heavy duty, beautifully embossed brass. Dresses up the hearth very nicely!

I think this is a decent product. While it is not as heavy as I had expected, it is not too light. Also, it is a little shorter than I had expected, but not too short to return. I have not had one of these tools for closing / opening flues before, I had expected that I would be able to open and close the flue using this tool, but I cannot, I still have to reach in with my hand to open and close it.

Our damper lever is centered, dirty, and not easily visible. Worse, up closed down open was not intuitive! Of course, make sure you can hang this on your damper lever. I remove this when burning in the fireplace as it will give you a nice brand. Solved Smokey fire starts!

Very sturdy construction and great for opening or closing the flue

We liked the first one so well, we ordered a second one. We have a see through fireplace with open on one side and close on the other. This allows us to be able to do this more easy and safely.
