Great table for both kitchen or laboratory
I bought one of these for work (research lab) which we've been using for 2 months and recently, one for home as a kitchen island.Assembly:It's not hard to assemble-- you place the top surface upside down on the floor, then you insert each leg. The shelf has holes in the corner that slip over the four legs (adjustable to any height). You will probably need a second person to hold the shelf steady while you insert the screws. There are no predrilled holes; you essentially insert four screws and using an Allen key, just turn as hard as you can to "bite" into the legs. I assembled the first table with a co-worker; the second I managed to do by myself by inserting some boxes to hold the shelf up. Once you've attached the shelf, then you insert the screws for the top surface. The screws, which are not visible once assembly is finished, come with plastic caps to cover them to prevent scratching yourself on them.To prevent uneven wobbling (helpful if you have a floor that's not perfectly flat), the bottom of each leg has adjustable knobs you rotate to even out the table.Weight/Durability:Apparently each shelf is rated for 150 lbs, but I have not yet tested it. It seems sturdy for light to medium objects, but I wouldn't put something super heavy on it (i.e. a kitchenaid mixer) as I suspect it may bow over time. I'm also skeptical the way it is assembled that the bottom shelf can hold 150 lbs, but again, I haven't checked.Aesthetics:It looks great in a research lab. As a kitchen island it works if you have stainless steel appliances or features in your kitchen, otherwise it may look too "sterile". It is very easy to clean and wipe off. However if you have greasy fingers it gets smudgy if you touch it.Overall I'd recommend this product. For everyday use-- whether laboratory or in the kitchen (chopping, prepwork, storage) I think it's super useful. If you want to put very heavy items on it or use it as a heavy-duty workbench (Ie sawing or drilling) I would suggest something sturdier.

Perfect!
I needed a work table for my kitchen, something sturdy but not too heavy, something long enough but not too huge, and something with a little bit of storage with it. I checked out all the different kitchen islands and carts, checked out restaurant supply stores. Everything was either too expensive, too big, too small, too heavy, didn't fit the style; nothing looked like it would work. Then I saw this one. After reading the reviews, I thought it would be okay to take a chance on it. I'm very glad I did. I love this table! It's fairly light weight, but that's good for me because I often have to move it myself. It's the right height to work on and the lower shelf is just right for holding my cast iron skillets, cutting board and knives. What I like most about it, though, is that it's the right size and it's not thick and clunky looking in my kitchen. It keeps the space open and airier looking. This is not a heavy-duty work table. For use in the kitchen or even outdoors for a potting table or for light work in the garage or basement, it's great. It's attractive enough to use just about anywhere, actually, although the stainless steel does scratch easily (which I don't mind, to me it adds character.) I'm thinking about getting another one to use as a painting table, as it's the right height to stand up and work on. I even had the thought that if it had short legs I'd use it as a coffee table. There are a huge number of things that this table would be perfect for.It was very easy to put together. You'll want to have a level handy for the bottom shelf. There are casters and a hanging bar that can be bought for it too. All in all, a good, practical, attractive work area.

GREAT PREP TABLE alone or with added butcher block
I was looking for an additional prep space for my kitchen remodel and found this Stainless Steel table on Amazon, which is rated for food safety. Although it is great on its own and very sturdy, I wanted to make it more useable for cutting on. The problem was finding a butcher block cutting board to fit it, as I didn't just want a cutting board, but one that covered the entire top.....it was almost impossible to find.....the table top is 48 x 24....I finally found butcher block that measured 24 x 24 at [...] and purchased two of them....they fit the top perfectly. Should you go to purchase the butcher block from them you can pay through your Amazon account, which really made it simple. Unlike most butcher block, these are 1 3/4 inches thick which make them heavy enough to not move while working on them, but to make sure that they didn't move, I purchased Bekith Silicone Pot Holder, trivet Mat,jar Opener, spoon Rest and Garlic Peeler (Set of 4) Non Slip, flexible, durable, dishwasher Safe, heat Resistant Hot Pads on Amazon and placed 4 (one on each corner) between the butcher block and the stainless top. So happy with this purchase....hopefully Amazon will put this review through even though I included where to get the butcher block. I would think that they would since I was able to purchase the butcher block using my Amazon account. I believe that being able to find quality butcher block that covers the entire top makes this a great table and prep surface. I want to add that when my review was approved and posted, Amazon took out where to purchase the butcher block....so sorry about that...that is why you see the parenthesis where the store name was. I don't get it...in my opinion, it gives more reason for someone to purchase the table from Amazon, knowing that the table can be enhanced with butcher block, not to count the fact that on that website, you are able to purchase it using your Amazon account. The website where the butcher block came from has no problem having Amazon listed on its site. That's too bad....I'm sorry to readers of the review that might have been interested in that size butcher block. I looked at Amazon first for that size of butcher block and would have bought it from Amazon had they had that size.
