It's a flashlight
In this day and age of newfangled multi-function gadgets it's nice to be able to buy a trusted brand name flashlight that turns on and off when you click the button. And, if I want the dimmer light I just double click it when I turn it on. I love these for the simplicity. And they don't go through D cell batteries like my old Maglites did.

Cool light but falsely advertised
I like the design, matte finish and gnurled grip. But the advertisement clearly states 524 lumens at 366 meters but instead you get a light rated at 487 lumens and 323 meters. 5 stars for the light, 0 for whoever is writing the ad.

gave this a a gift to an ol army guy who loved the grip
this thing came in the coolest box. a cardboard box fist time ive seen a maglite in a cardboard box. the grip on this is also the bomb..no quite literally shaped after a grenade. gave this a a gift to an ol army guy who loved the grip. this is also the brightest maglite i've seen. i had trouble letting it go..this light has me starting my mag-lite obsession back up again!!! o did i mention the flat green this thing comes in is awesome!!

It's a good light
A great flashlight but not without some things that could be better.Brightness and throw are good. Is it 524 lumens projected out 366 meters like the specs say? Probably not. My 200 lumen 200 meter LedLenser is almost equivalent. However, I'm using re-chargeable D cells which run at a lower voltage than the alkaline D's that are recommended. Using the alkaline D's will probably get this flashlight to the peak spec values... but they won't run as long as my NiMh batteries. I'm trading off a little bit of performance in exchange for longer battery life. The button operation is great; love it. I'm SOOOO glad it does not require the user to click through every mode in order to turn the flashlight off. Click to turn on. Click ONCE to turn off. Two fast clicks to turn on will put you in medium brightness; three fast clicks will put you in low brightness. Whichever brightness you are in, though, it only takes one click to turn off.The optics on this thing are embarrassing. "1/4 turn to go from flood to spot"? Ok. I would not call anything this flashlight puts out as a flood or a spot, they are close resemblances, but not even close to the flood and spot beams that the expensive flashlights put out. It took Maglite FOREVER to get on board with LED lighting. Now they need to get on board with hiring some real Optics Engineers and doing some actual design work on the front end. This flood/spot beam is just fine for general purpose, it just bugs me when a product is bordering on greatness but is being held back by some cheesy elements. The flashlight is pretty rugged. My cat was being attacked by another cat and I threw this flashlight about 30 ft across the yard with no damage or ill effect. Some flashlights cannot take a 3 ft drop much less a 30 ft throw.Even though I'm picky about some things, I would buy this again, and I wouldn't be embarrassed to give this as a gift.EDIT Jun26, 2016:Changed from 5 to 2 stars. The flashlight lens seems to be permanently stained. I don't know what got on there, but it won't wipe off. I unscrewed the lens so that I can try to buff it out, but still no. The stain is still there, and now disassembled, I see how CHEAP the lens is. I think it's just a normal piece of transparent plastic! Definitely not glass... and doesn't seem like the good polycarbonate or acrylic plastic... just a cheap feeling and looking plastic like what might be found on children's toy's.I'm trying hard to like this thing and give it the benefit of the doubt, but after seeing the cheap crap material they use for a lens, I'm getting resentful. They brag about being American made, they charge you premium prices as if this was a world-class flashlight, and then they give you cheap workmanship and amateur optics.I think I'm done with Maglite for the forseeable future.
