Look Nice, but not the same...
Ordinarily I would rate the Othenia Sugar Spoons as 5 stars. They are absolutely perfect for soup, ice-cream, stews, etc.. and represent a sorely missed utensil shape in the Othenia flatware set. Unfortunately the sugar spoons ordered on Amazon have not been the same as our original Othenia collection. If you're looking to perfectly match your existing Othenia sugar spoon heft and feel, you should probably look elsewhere, otherwise the shape and quality of these are okay for backups. These are definitely a reproduction, not the original, but no clue if they were 'officially' reproduced by Oneida or by someone else. Although they look nice/similar and might be 'authentic' Oneida, they are not the 'Original' Othenia. All edges show signs of being cast and copied from the original. All of the characteristic sharp edges of the original are rounded on these, even the edge in the round scoop is back further and curved due to the imperfect casting. Oneida USA is barely visible and rounded, unlike the original's that have a very nice sharp stamp. These also weigh an ounce lighter than the originals. The scoop on these also have inconsistent thickness (bad cast), with the spoon's mouth edge thinning and becoming sharp like a knife (ouch). All 3 ordered from this vendor had different thicknesses, yet all my original's have a consistent thick edge around the spoon (as do the ones ordered from a different vendor). It's possible Oneida cast a mold of their own product to manufacture in a different factory with lower quality control, and perhaps this seller received products from that batch? Not faulting the seller but their supplier on these particular spoons. Update: Ordered some from a different (non-Amazon) Oneida vendor and unlike these, they were perfectly identical to our originals, so not sure what to say about these from Amazon...
