Rubus idaeus or common red Raspberry is native to much of Europe and northern Asia. Raspberries are hardy and grow biennial, upright canes from a perennial root system. White single flowers are produced from spring to late summer and are followed by the well known and very popular red Raspberry fruits. Rubus idaeus Malling Promise is a superb variety renowned for its outstanding performance and good quality, large, tasty raspberry fruits which are packed full of vitamins and antioxidants. It’s a popular prolific variety with good disease resistance. The fruit ripens from August until the first frosts on the second year canes. If the plant is cut back in autumn or before spring. Then it makes fruit on current year´s wood. If the old canes are not cut they will set fruit early in the season, in June and July. You can also have fruit from June until October on well established, strong plants if you cut back half of the old canes leaving the other half growing. The plant will then set fruit on both old and new wood. The canes should be provided with some support. Easy to grow in a sun or semi shade location, in almost any free draining soils. Can be pot grown. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you prune and feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring.

Life erupts
Arrived as a single dead-looking stalk with three prongs. Trident :). Now one of the prongs is in full greenery mode with several bunches of white flowers, a second prong is slowly joining with a coupla bunches of flowers just opening. The center prong for some reason appear dead, dunno if that is normal. In any event, happy with the purchase as it has blossomed into greenery and many bunches of flowers.
