Mouse to the masses
I've used quite a few mice in the last 5 years, including the Logitech M305 Wireless Mouse , Lenovo Wireless Mouse , and the Logitech Wireless Mouse M310 .Compatibility: (5/5)I've tested this mouse with a Windows 7 laptop and Lion/Mountain Lion MacBook Air. For both of these computers, the mouse was recognized within couple seconds of plugging in the unifying USB receiver. No software or driver was necessary. Truly plug-and-play and PC/MAC compatible.Aesthetics: (4.5/5)I purchased the black version with red stripes on the sides, and I must say that this is the best looking mouse that I have ever owned. The first image on Amazon for the black version of this mouse is wrong. Look at the third and fourth picture to get a better idea of the color and the design. This is definitely a notebook mouse, and NOT a desktop mouse. If you have only been using a desktop mouse, you'll notice that you won't be able to rest your entire palm on the mouse (unless you have small hands). But this isn't so bad if you're looking for a portable mouse to use in sometimes small spaces. This mouse also sports a tiny unifying USB receiver. It's the smallest USB receiver you'll find on any mouse and it works with other Logitech brand wireless keyboards and accessories. After putting in the 2 AA batteries, this mouse is definitely not the lightest mouse. But for me, this is a good thing. I want to feel some weight underneath my hands when I'm maneuvering the mouse.Usability: (5/5)I can't say I noticed too much difference between the optical mice that I've used in the past and this laser mouse, but it's definitely not worse. Either way, I've never had problems with optical mice's precision and I don't foresee having problem with a laser one, which are supposed to be better. Also, for those people who want/need notches on the middle scroll-wheel, YES this mouse does have them. Whether you want to make incremental scrolls up/down a page or change weapons during a game, you can do it by moving the scroll-wheel notch by notch. (Note: Notch distances are small and a bit subtle)Battery: (5/5)I am currently using 2 AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries. I've only had this mouse for 2-3 weeks now, so I can't confirm that the mouse will last 15 months. But what I can say is that this mouse has 2 features that will help prolong the battery life. The first is the smart sleep mode, which allows the mouse to go into a power saving mode when it hasn't been used for some time. The other feature is the on/off switch, which not all mice come with (gasp!). So no more popping off the batteries when you know you're not going to use the mouse for an extended time.Warranty : (5/5)The mouse comes with 3 year warranty. If you're having problems with the mouse, contact Logitech. I have never had a problem with a Logitech mouse or keyboard, but I can at least count on the long warranty period.--------For my purposes (casual gaming, web browsing, document editing, etc...) I have found this mouse to be an excellent device. If you can find it at a lower cost used from Amazon Warehouse, I advise you to do so. But even at the current sale price for the new, I don't know if there's any other wireless laser mouse with a unifying, small USB receiver that I would recommend over this one.

The best wireless mouse I have owned
I've been using the Logitech M505 wireless mouse for about two hours and I have to agree with all the positive reviews on this mouse. It's extremely comfortable, easy to use and setup (no CD software was included), and feels well built. Shipping was fast and the item was sealed in it's original boxing.I immediately plugged it into my Toshiba NB505 running Debian GNU/Linux so I can confirm that it runs on Linux (just as the box notes). As soon as I plugged it in, it was recognized and tracking was extremely smooth and there were no jerky movements with the cursor. The mouse has just the right amount of sensitivity. I didn't have to calibrate or configure anything to get the mouse working under Linux. The mouse was automatically configured and felt just right. I previously tried the Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse and it was just too sensitive and jumpy on both my desktop computer (running Windows XP) and my netbook. I tried many ways to get it configured, but it just never felt right. I returned that mouse and went with this one, and I'm so glad I did. This mouse not only worked better for me, it's also a better value. The mouse is really comfortable and fits nicely in the hand. It has rubber grips along the side, along with a glossy plastic (on the black mouse) on the top finger buttons and palm section to give it a sleek, professional look. I have fairly large hands and this portable mouse still fits comfortably. The mouse doesn't have a complex design. The design is so simple, yet it works.Clicking the buttons on this mouse are quiet and don't require much strength to be clicked. The scroll wheel on this mouse is nice as well. It's quiet and "rolls" or "clicks" comfortably. It's just a basic scroll wheel, not one that you can spin for hours. You also have the typical click and left/right clicking of the scroll wheel, but it doesn't seem to work out of the box with Linux (at least on my configuration). I don't even use that feature anyway.Another thing I like about this mouse is the placement of the laser. It's directly dead-center on the bottom of the mouse, so maybe that gives it the better tracking compared to the M705, where the laser placement was on the far right, practically on the edge of the mouse a few millimeters from the tip of my pinky finger. Thanks Logitech and Amazon for a great product and great service! Just as others say, I will edit this review and note how long the default batteries last with this mouse._____________________________________________EDIT: I just tried this mouse on my desktop computer running Windows XP and it performs great. It performs way better than the M705 I tried on this desktop. The M705 was too jerky and jumpy, and when I moved the mouse from side to side, I noticed it slanted downward from left to right, when I was for sure moving in a perfectly horizontal movement. The M505 doesn't have that annoyance at all. The M505 didn't require any extra software either and was instantly recognized and worked perfectly. The only configuration I had to perform with this mouse on Windows was slowing down the cursor speed through the control panel, but that's nothing. I'm already used to this mouse. I'm actually thinking of buying another for my desktop computer, too. It's that good.
