its good!
The item is everything people say it is, good quality sound, nice battery life. Firmware updates improves stability. If you have a lot of music on your fuze+ those firmware updates will help keep it smooth on transitioning between songs/albums when looking through your list without freezes like some ipod's out there. The recording feature OMG its very sensitive and amazing how well it picks up sound! not only that but it isnt static sounding or hissing or anything, its as if you're talking into a highquality microphone :DI got the red one because honestly 10$ more for another color is stupid.. it should be the same price regardless of color..Anyways, its well worth the money. I sold my 32gb itouch and got this because I found this to have more of the features I wanted.I have a laptop, I got an iphone (don't like to listen to music on it) but use the iphone for apps. Laptop for internet. This imo is better then itouch if you're wanting an ipod for music focused additions.Otherwise get an itouch.Hope this has helped everyone ;)ps.wish the buttons were more accurate/flexible when you press them for looking through your list. -future update maybe? :)

This is a good MP3 player.
This is a good Mp3 player. It outputs music in high quality, and has a VERY good battery life. It does have one critical flaw; the touch interface. Essentially, if you even slide it in your pocket the wrong way, it will turn off the lock and start shifting thru your music tracks, or changing settings or whatnot. Proper pocket placement will prevent this, ha ha ha (but im serious. just put it in your pocket right and it wont have the problem.) The point is, the touch interface is kind of annoying, especially when you are first getting used to it. Later on if you stick to it because of the players merits, then you will be able to manage the touch interface better, and more or less compensate for its over / under sensitivity. So, what do I say?I say, you should buy it. The sound quality, the battery life especially, the number of features, makes this one a good choice.

Decent Player, GREAT sound quality, but touchpad and lag hold it back
(note: COMPLETELY redone review after I have hands-on experience with a second unit, that actually works)####Late May 2020 Update: I still use this daily and AM STILL considering buying a backup Fuze+ while i can still get one at a somewhat decent price but my big issue is honestly the default firmware ... I have used this for the two years I have had it regularly and whether it's the sound and not being right where i'd want it to be with the default firmware or the navigation + touchpad issues being annoying as heck ... I cant recommend this UNLESS you load Rockbox on this ... if you are even willing to TRY Rockbox ... that's another story .. .Rockbox makes the sound, so much better even with basic Treble and Bass adjustments (I haven[t even without adjusting the mids in the EQ) ... and navigating Rockbox with the touchpad alot easier ... sure i misclick a few times but it's not like the default firmware ... Rockbox can easier effect a star to a star and 1/2 on my review ... with rockbox i give this say a 4 to 4.5 ... without it ... I give it a 3 ... I do have to say not many players that are not long since discontinued support Rockbox anymorre, too####I have given this player a "3-star" rating but really it should be 3.5 ... not enough to make it a 4.0, but not low enough to make it a 3.0While I haven't gotten the accessories to use it like I want, I recently bought a Sansa Fuze+ to replace a Sansa Clip+ (Battery), and along with my experience with a Sony NWZE463, I have already formed some options on the Fuze+Note: I NEVER use the included earbuds and use either The Sony MDRZX100 model or Sony MDRZX110 (which have slightly better bass then the 100's) with all three of these players ... so when i mention "sound quality" keep that in Mind.Sound Quality:I may as well start with this. I am using the same headphones as the Clip+ I used for 5 years straight AND the same microsd card .... with the DEFAULT firmware .. some sound the same as the Rockbox'ed (I will get to that later), Clip+ ... HOWEVER other songs with the DEFAULT firmware sound BETTER then the Rockbox'ed Clip+ ... I was NOT expecting this. While I have to say I need to get the settings just right on Rockbox .. the sound is really good there too on the Clip+.It has a responsive 5-band equalizer that doesn't really adjustments when you get it the way you want ... I do use a custom setting but throughout many genres ... once "it's good", "it's good".My Sony has a ...what seems like similar 5-band eq that doesn't seem to have the same controls on "each band"... The Sony seems to "sound flat" at times ... the Fuze+ DOESN'T suffer from this issue.Rockbox:I just said it ... YOU CAN use Rockbox on this player and it DOES iron out a few negative issues about this player. I think I will mention those things as I go.To be fair, only having a Sansa Clip+ (Rockboxed), and that Sony as non-CD related Mp3 players, I went out of my way to search for a unit that DOES support a STABLE version of Rockbox... one of the many reasons I bought this one.The Touchpad:While not a make or break issue and I read MANY reviews ... some people giving this a 4+ star rating or higher, saying "the touchpad is an issue at times"... I do agree .. I have not gone for a walk with the unit, though I could see (if I dont use the lock feature), the player brushing against my shorts, the way I'd hold it and auto-switching to the next track.I KNEW what i was getting when i ordered this and while it's not perfect, it's not "OH THIS IS SO TERRIBLE" either. Rockbox DOES help here and it's not 100% perfect with RB... the touchpad is under control more.My suggestion for the touchpad ... Sansa SHOULD have made the player a little wider and longer .. and made the four arrow keys and enter key (centered) a little further apart. This way users wouldn't be mis-pressing the wrong buttonI sometimes go to hit "enter" and hit one of the arrow keys because my finger wasn't perfectly centered on "enter".... again if you know this sort of issue going in, and may not "rockbox" your player ... this really isn't a huge issue that makes me hate the fuze+ but it IS enough of a problem to notice.I also have to mention the lag ... I am not sure where the bottleneck is but there is a lag sometimes with at least the default firmware, where it the player seems to lag behind what you're trying to do ... then it trys to catch up... like it's too slow going to a sub-menu of music ... then it goes too far when it's trying to catch up. It's not really bad to me ... but again something I DID read about pre-purchase and something I do notice with hands-on experience with the Fuze+(Default Firmware) User Interface:The UI is VERY intuitive and easy to use .. though it may take a few minutes or so of use to "get used to"... IGNORING the touchpad issue I mentioned ... it's not hard to get around and figure out "what's where"Power Button:I DO LIKE the fact that "any button" (say swiping the touchpad by accident) CAN'T turn the unit on, like my Sony. With the current firmware (I did see with some firmware versions, "swiping up" on the touchpad unlocks the player and people were unlocking by accident with the Fuze+ in their pockets). With the unit I have you firmly press the power button to turn the unit on or off, and "lightly" (press and release right away) to lock or unlock it... I guess turning the unit on or off is more of a "press and hold for a second or two" thing.Boot time:Here is another issue that made me lower the rating from a 4.0 .... the boot time is long .. .with the default firmware, it's like 20 seconds to boot up .. maybe longer.with the SAME 16GB microsd card plugged in and packed with music... with Rockbox ... the player may take ...eh ... 2 seconds at most .. 1 maybe to boot ... it's not instant but close enough ... so if you use Rockbox you can not only really help out the Touchpad issue, but eliminate the "waiting for 20 seconds" for it to bootup issue. I hate to say this ... the DEFAULT UI with the default firmware is not bad ... if it didn't take so long to bootup and gave better controls over the touchpad ... I'd use that more than just using Rockbox.Bottom Line: I WOULD recommend this unit if you see the Con's and are willing to work around them... IF YOU'RE A "non-techie" sort of person and would never use Rockbox ... eh ... I may have to suggest "look elsewhere" or at least make sure (@ no charge to you) you can order it, give it a try and return it, if the Con's are too much.I also have to mention that while my unit was by far "not cheap", I did not pay what I have seen on some sites have as this unit was brand new... in some cases, the average price of this when it was new may have been 2.25 TIMES the price I paid for mine ... IF I'd have paid that for this ...my Con's would have been stronger and I'd be more disappointed then I seem in this review.Basically, I was worried about the sound quality with my prior experience with how much I loved the Sansa Clip+ and while it does have it's pro's ... the "flat" sound of that Sony ... I have YET ANOTHER Sansa player, after the Fuze+ and ...basically Sansa has my trust Mp3 Player wise ... there are pro's and con's to all of them but I think I'd go out of my way to go with a Sansa player if I needed any mp3 players, "down the line"March 2019 update:I have to say this is the one I have used more (I purchased a Sansa e360 I think it was at about the same time) and while I still get driven NUTS at times while (even using Rockbox) the touchpad goes into menus I never ment for it to go into ... I ... I cant up my score to a 4.0 out of 5, but I still am HAPPY with my purchase ... the touchpad IS THE big issue still and if it wasn't for that .... I'd think I'd give it a 4.5 at the lowest, out of 5. ... again I am STILL happy with my purchase and even though I bought mine used ... it's going strong, no problem

Keeps losing settings
Settings was needed to be done over and over before using.. FM tuner was great and then the signal started to become less reliable. Songs were sounding bad. Songs from my sd card worked well. The device is like a slippery eel. No touch screen. No tactile wheel to navigate. Touch control on body of device. Imprecise. Too bad. Wanted to really like it.

Would not use for ripped Audio Books
The Sansa fuse+ will not play Audio Books ripped from CD’s correctly. It will either mix the tracks up or mix the books up or both. I have 80 or more audio books (almost 50K of individual files) that I have ripped and stored on SD micro cards or my computer. These worked and played just fine in the correct order and correct book titles on my older Sansa Fuse. I talked to three different rep’s at SanDisk for over 3 hours on the phone or waiting for call backs. First had no answer and the second had a work around that would have taken untold hours to edit each track with a book and track numbers. The third person had a work around to edit the genre each track to music which would have been a little easier but still would have taken countless hours and mixed is the book with the music. All blame the CD publisher for the problem. And I would ask then why everything worked just fine on my old Fuse. I would say the Sansa firmware is the problem! I can’t ask publishers to conform to what SanDisk has done to change its new players, but I will ask you to fix the players so I can once again enjoy my books. And I feel the touch pad is overly sensative. I keep moving pass things I want to do. But that could just be me.

Love it's construction and ease of use
Love it's construction and ease of use, hate that it categorizes my music and loads the external card every time I turn it on. I want my music list (22 gigs) in a list by artist. I don't care which album or supporting artist are on it. Just list it the way I loaded it please!!!
