I was concerned if this would hold your pencil when you sharpen the pencil. It works really well. Just slightly put the tip of your pencil in and start turning the handle. It pulls the pencil in on its own. When it’s sharpened, the handle will no longer have resistance. Just turn the handle backwards and the sharpener will spit the pencil out. It does but take up much space and surprisingly will sharpen a lot of pencils before needing to be emptied.

This is absolutely a great product for less than $3. I'm definitely recommended! It works just as it says it does and stop sharpening before the pencil lead breaks.

I was in need of a good sharpener and bought this after reading some of the reviews and also out of some curiosity. I wanted to see how it holds the pencil while sharpening, and now that I have it, I see that it does it pretty well. You just have to insert the tip of the pencil and turn the handle, and it grabs the pencil and sharpens it. It sharpens pencils really well and also very quickly. I honestly didn't know something like this existed and I'm pleasantly surprised to see how well it works. I am planning to give them as gifts and won't hesitate to buy it again if needed.

Definitely an improvement over the standard cheap 1 dollar pencil sharpeners you get from the dollar store or other stores. For just 2 dollars more you should definitely get this instead. It holds the pencil well while sharpening and then goes smooth once the pencil is perfect. It's almost addicting to sharpen unsharpened pencils on this thing. I sharpened a whole big handful for no reason but to test that the handle didn't snap, and well, it didn't. If you need a sharpener and don't wanna pay for batteries/don't have arthritis, this is probably your best bet.

We were sharpening pencils and going through them so quickly because other sharpeners would cause the pencils to break. This was the perfect solution.

My students love this little sharpener. I bought it so that students wouldn't interrupt the class with the horrible electric sharpener! Every time I let them use it, they're always surprised at how well it works and how different it is. It's not as quiet as a handheld sharpener that you spin yourself, but it works much better and is still way quieter than anything electric. Since it's so unique, my students are happy to use this little guy and are not tempted to use the electric one. They know to stop turning the handle when it becomes easy to turn, and the pencil always comes out perfectly sharp. I definitely would buy this again, either for a friend or for myself :) It sharpens map pencils and artist pencils perfectly as well!

I rarely write reviews on Amazon because I think that most of them are bogus, planted by vendors as dishonest marketing. In this case I'm making an exception because this little pencil sharpener far surpassed by expectations and the price that I paid for it. It works beautifully and puts a stiletto point on every pencil that I've tried in it: regular graphite school pencils (quality yellow ones with hexagon sides and cheap novelty round ones), kids' wax colored pencils, and two different kinds of high-end watercolor artist pencils. It has a double-helix blade design like the old hand-crank sharpeners that used to be in every public school. As other reviewers noted, it does not have a suction base, but that is not an issue because you do not have to hold the pencil being sharpened. That's the genius of this product. You just insert the pencil gently until the blades "grab" it initially, then crank with one hand, holding the unit down with the other. After 4-5 easy cranks, there is no more friction and your crank it once counterclockwise to release the pencil. Both my elementary-age kids use it with no problems. If for some reason you absolutely want it secured to the tabletop, any woodworking clamp or cheap C clamp that you have will do the job. It's easily worth 2, 3, or 4 times the $4 price and does the job better than electric and manual sharpeners that cost much more than that.
