Works fantastic
I bought this to process tomatoes for sauce without the skins and seeds. It works with the food grinder (ksmfga). I hooked it up and processed over 5 gallons of cooked tomatoes in no time at all. It worked without plugging, and efficiently removed all of the sauce from the seeds and skins leaving a very dry pulp. It is very easy to assemble and very easy to clean. I am so pleased as my previous method was the hand crank food mill which constantly plugged up and was very tedious to operate. It is priced reasonably and seems well made. If you are looking for an upgrade from a manual food mill, this is for you!!

MISSING PARTS!!!!
I recieved this item with no instructions, parts list etc. I had no idea if all the parts were there or how to use it. I went online and found info on it and from what I can tell, its missing some parts , so I returned it for a replacement. When I recieved the replacement, it was obvious that some parts (a plastic shield, a black tube and a metal rod of some kind) were not in the original order. I have not tried it yet so I cannot comment on whether I will like it or not. I do not understand how something can be shipped and not be complete!! Its irritating to have to repackage and return orders!

most important is model numbers must be for new grinder model.
This KitchenAid Fruit and Vegetable Strainer - KSMFVSP is a new model number and can only be used with the new grinder. Other wise it works great if you have both new parts.

Not for FGA-2 either…
So I was clear on the fact that it needs a KSMFGA grinder. Problem is I couldn’t tell which model mine is. It’s marked FGA-2 and the manual says it works with the KSMFVSP specifically. This FVSP does not fit the FGA-2. I can’t negative the device itself, it’s great. It beats the bejeebers out of any other method of juicing berries and tomatoes for canning and we can a lot. It sets up easy, cleans easy, and is very effective. Put a strainer over the bowl of your pulp catch and let the pulp drain a bit and you’ll get more useable juice. Wish I hadn’t needed to buy a new grinder since my old one works fine and I also have a #8 stand-alone grinder. If I had known this I’d have bought a third-party after market strainer attachment with a grinder for half the dollars. Just know that it won’t fit the FGA or FGA-2 or the new MGA (metal) grinder. If it fits what you have already or are willing to buy, it’s fantastic.

Huge time saver; highly recommend!
This is amazing! I had no idea this existed, and it changed my life. I was doing all the tomato stuff by hand, and always wondered how stuff you bought at the store was able to be seedless. It did take me a few times to learn to get the hang of the best way to use it, and the less you do before hand the better this works. If you can any items yearly I'd highly recommend this! One note is that to use this you need another attachment also the meat grinder as the fruit and vegetable strainer has to connect to the mixer through that, which I did not know initially when I ordered this. So there are also a lot of parts, but they are pretty easy to clean.

Perfect for juicing San Marzano tomatoes

This is an invaluable tool for canning tomatoes. Just be aware it does require the meat grinder tool as well to complete the setup.

Il manque les items 1, 2, 5 et 8 du livre d'instruction. Ce ne sont pas des items optionnels pour uilisation avec plus de luxe. C'est carrément inutilisable sans ces morceaux !! Fausse représentation !

This unit has paid for itself already with time savings in labour, bought it specifically for tomatoes, more specifically for making tomato sauce, this unit removed the skins and seeds, turning it into a little turd that’s extruded from the end, an leaves the pulp and juice to drip into your bowl placed below. Did note it plugs up easier/quicker with small sized cherry tomatoes, but worked perfectly for Roma sized tomatoes, which is fine since I bought it for making sauces. Also we use tomatoes we’ve grown and frozen throughout the season until the end when they’re all done growing, then thaw and process, NEED TO BE FULLY THAWED OR SHE WILL PLUG UP, also, you need to buy the plastic grinder attachment, this does not work on the metal grinder head attachment has to be the plastic one.

The strainer is sturdy. The picture is deceiving, you need to purchase the meat grinder attachment, as well. Makes short work of tomatoes and apples. Apples need to quartered and steamed soft. No peeling or coring.

This thing saw about 300 lbs of tomatoes go through it, and 122 lbs of apples. For tomatoes, it's great, but DON'T put the 'squeezings' back through it trying to ring every last bit of sauce like so many people say to do on youtube. Eventually it winds up bunched up at the small end of the auger...then you wind up with a bunch of liquified product backing up into the hopper. The only way to deal with it at that point is to pull it apart and clean the auger off by hand. For tomatoes, the cut them small enough that they'll fit down the hole and run them through. It sometimes spits a bit of juice a couple of feed out of the end where the 'squeezings' come out, so don't point it at your new kitchen curtains. I put a large cutting board against the wall to catch the splatter. It's very little, but it is going to come out of there sooner or later. As for apples, I did cut them up and cook them for 20 minutes or so to soften them up a bit. I tried part of one without cooking and it didn't sound happy..like, I'm going to break if you do that again not happy. Over all, it worked exactly as advertised. I do recommend it.
