Stanley STMT71654 201-Piece Drive Mechanics Tool Set

Weekend mechanics will definitely enjoy this set and it will see you through most of the average persons car jobs. You won't be able to strip an entire engine down with the set but you will be able to complete most routine maintenance tasks and do lots of top end work. The ratchets are solidly built but have some play in them when ratcheting which can make it hard to get a full turn out of them when in a tight place. Finish is durable and tools have same weight to them making you feel confident when in use. The sockets, wrenches, keys, and drivers are all true to size and will not slip off. I would highly recommend this to someone who needs a basic kit for car maintenance. I would argue that this could get you about 50% through an engine.

The case doesn't have wings but is in two sections so it doesn't look like the picture.The good:Tools held well so they don't dump when you open the case.Case has 4 latches so it is rigid.Very good selection of tools.The hex driver bits are in removable trays so that you can use them with a power driver easily.There are both hex driver and socket bits for torax, Phillips and Allen.No waste tools like screwdrivers, claw hammers or feeler gages.Well made.Great bang for the buck.The Bad:The case appears to be somewhat weather tight but far from water proof.The Allen wrench pouch is weak and brittle.The ugly:The case has no room to add tools.It can be hard to get things into and out of the case--the design makes this somewhat unavoidable but I have seen it done better.The Allen wrenches--not the bits or drivers--are a bit redundant.IMHO the sapace would have been better used for a more comprehensive set of driver bits.Nice set of basic metric and SAE tools well thought out selection. Would be 5 stars if the case were a little better even if it cost more or if the drivers were more comprehensive.

The set looks quite impressive...... Well good looks and good performance are not the same by any means. I used the 1/4 inch ratchet with a 7/16" deep-wall socket for a total of 5 minutes. The Ratchet fell apart...the tiny pieces that composed the ratchet spread all over the floor. I have pictures of what I gathered together after the failure. I always had a very high opinion and felt comfortable about the Stanley name. But I am flabbergasted by what I saw. If this is what I can expect from a Stanley tool.... I'll never buy another again.

Sold all my tools when i left mechanical tool required employment. Needed a ratchet set to put an alternator in my car, and saw how this had 1/4,3/8 and 1/2 inch.The set performed perfectly,sockets never fell off ratchet and ratchets took all the force i could give them without any issues. The case holds everything in place 95% of the time lol. The one time it didn't i left the case open in direct sunlight for 2 hours and it actually got soft and 7 sockets fell out oh and the allen wrench pouches split easy so be prepared to find another bag for those as well. No biggie though,not a reason to shy away from this set whatsoever.Just keep the container under the car...IN THE SHADE. Stronger product then I remember Stanley making. A+ for 80$!

The tools seem to be of fair quality which is what I expected. My problem was that 40% of the 201 pieces were small drive bits of every shape and size. You would think they would have included a screwdriver handle adapter to hold the tips. Apparently they figured you could use a ratched , collet and an extension to drive them. Typical chinese thinking. I would have returned it but I tore the lable on the tip trying to take it off. Do Not Buy

This is a great deal for the price, with a compliable selection of tools. The only problem I found with the whole set is the ratchet's are poor quality.

This is my second one of these tool kits. I purchased the first one for my vehicle over 3 years ago in order to do some light work on my car. As it turned out I had to do a complete motor overhaul on a 428 Super Cobra Jet Ford engine and the only thing I needed was this kit, a couple of screw drivers, and a rental torque wrench. I guess the overhaul went well, the motor now has over 40,000 miles on it and it has never leaked or used a drop of oil. To boot it runs like a bat out of He##!. This is a great kit for a motor rebuild down to a simple thermostat change in almost any vehicle. I think so much of it that I bought a second kit to keep in the house. The first kit was well over $200 when I bought it. Imagine my delight when Amazon ran them on sale for less than $90. I bought one with out hesitation and I got free shipping to boot. GREAT DEAL!

I agree with the previous reviewers that this is a great set of sockets and wrenches for working on your vehicle. Not only do I think so, but the person who broke into my vehicle and stole my last set must have thought so. I ordered a new set from Amazon to replace them, and have just received them. They arrived promptly.The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 stars: I wish that I had gone to Walmart 1st. They are selling this same set of tools for $21 less. ($60.00)
