This is what a Codex should be
A codex is an opportunity to set a tone for a faction and sub-factions, the 40K universe in general, etc...and I think this does it pretty well. But just fluff in a codex with five pages of rules makes me angry to drop $40+. This codex however, is 50% army list and special rules. Granted, a couple pages are semi-filler because they list officers with separate stats depending if they're wearing Phobos, Gravis, or generic armor, but on the whole, everything space marine is in here. If you have a model from 2nd edition on, there's probably a unit card for it in here. Of course, they're slowly weaning us off our old marines in favor of the Primaris, with a noticeable power creep, but I like the concept of the old guard slowly dying off. If every codex was like this, I'd buy more of them.

All you need to play or understand the space marine(s)
Worth buying if you want to play Warhammer space marines or want to get a good understanding of all the important lore as well as being sturdy and high quality, but it is a little pricey and gw definitely filled it up with no essential info to inflate the price and well that doesn't bother me since it's not as bad as people make it seems, it is a flaw that will bother some people and don't feel afraid to buy used or avoid it because of that
