Utopia (Third Edition)(Norton Critical Editions) is the best edition
These Amazon reviews are mostly unhelpful (especially given that the lead review is not about *any* edition of More's Utopia). What the reviews should deal with is how the different editions differ from each other, how the translations are, what the extra information is, etc.The Norton Critical edition is a fine modern translation (do not, I'd suggest, try to read any edition that reprints the 16th century English translation, which is historically important but inaccurate and uses obsolete English). It includes *all* of *Utopia*, which includes Book I and Book II (which almost all editions include) as well as extra material, published with the first four editions of *Utopia* from 1516 to 1518 -- letters about the book by More and other humanists. The Norton Critical Edition also includes interpretive essays on the *Utopia* (which can be helpful because it is a complex little book -- while we may think of a utopia as a perfect society, Utopia is not [and I think was not intended to be] perfect; More is a playful satirist; More uses traditional rhetorical methods which most people no longer know or recognize; etc.)There are other good translations around, but for me (as a professor, a utopian scholar, and someone who would like to see More's *Utopia* read widely, I think the Norton Critical Edition (third edition) is the best popularly priced edition available.
