K'NEX Angry Birds Space Inter-ham-lactic Building Set

My son wanted this for Christmas and we bought it, when he opened it was a lot better quality than I expected!! Most sets like these are cheaply made and fall over before you can stack them, however this set was great and very durable

I thought my children, fans of legos and Angry Birds, would enjoy this, but they lost interest quickly. It does not allow the free imagination of legos or k'nex, nor does it captures the fast fun of the Angry Bird app. They quickly became bored with the long setup and quick knock down. Skip it.

Gave it as a gift to my nephew. He loved building the obstacles and knocking them down with the birds.

The Angry Bird Space Inter-Ham-Lactic Building Set has one little extra goodie that will lure in many collectors and that is the exclusive Snowman Pig. It also includes the Lazer Bird, Lightning Bird, and two Minion Pigs (Small and Medium). It has the working launcher that is in all of the sets. The Angry Bird Party Smasher's has a battery powered launcher that some prefer, but the standard "slingshot" takes that extra skill needed to demolish the Inter-Ham-Lactic setup. The instructions are in the form of easy to follow visuals. The demolition takes a bit of skill with the launcher and does take practice. The K'NEX sets are similar to Legos, but not quite the same and Legos fans often will take a pass. However, the K'NEX Angry Birds Sets are highly collectible and if you want that elusive, exclusive Snowman Pig this is the set to buy. Fun, easy to work with, great demolition material, and collectible. It's an alright game.

I remember when legos were fun and spending hours alone with them at my grandma's house in imaginary play. But this Hanukka present was a bad idea, at least for a kid with mild OCD. First of all, he had to build it perfectly. He did a fairly good job of following the directions but because it is made to be knocked down, getting it to stand up takes some mad fine motor skills that require way too much parental intervention. It fell apart numerous times, taking two days to build. The sling shot is pretty crappy. When he finally got it to shoot a bird, he was smiled a little but it was definitely anti-climactic.

To start, we handed this to the 7 year old (the recommended age is 7+). He also happens to be a huge fan of Angry Birds. He worked on this for about 30 minutes with no help. Eventually, our 8 year old joined in (can't let the youngest have all the fun!). Between the two of them, it took about 1 1/2 hours to set up with no help from adults. They wound up playing the actual game for about half an hour. The only complaint is that the slingshot just doesn't work that well. They abandoned the slingshot and just threw the birds at the structure. Since its initial play out of the box, the 7 year old keeps it in his bedroom and plays with it daily. Before he goes to bed, he likes to put it back together so that he can wake up in the morning and start his day with a little Angry Birds stress relief.

Previously, I had purchased Angry Birds sets that involved blocks just stacking on each other. My son had fun setting up "levels" and playing the game out (he even drew image "screens" for levels complete with star ratings). The problem with those sets is that the blocks simply rested on each other so if the spot where he set them up wasn't stable, or the cats were terrorizing the house, they would fall. This set is similar except it uses K'Nex blocks making them a bit more secure. As for using the catapult for the birds, it's hard as hell to hit anything (just like the other sets I mention previously). It's no biggie, my son just does it by hand and plays it out that way. Overall, he has fun with this set.
