Amazon Basics Gate Latch - Flush-Mounted, Black, one-pack, 13.39 Inch

I used it upside down on a 4x4 post for my 6 foot privacy fence gate. For a lock I drilled a hole through one of the existing holes in the latch into the 4x4 and used a long bolt hanging from a waxed string. Whenever I am inside the yard and wish to lock it I shove the bolt through the hole and walla.Great latch, strong.Easy to install.

Main thing to remember is that you will need 3/4" clearance for this latch to work with your gate. I liked this latch because I have a wooden gate with a wooden post so I was able to recess the latch into the post 1/2" so I only required 1/2" clearance between my gate and the post. This is a sturdy latch and I expect it will work well for years. It is powder coated and comes with quality lag bolts. I have not bent the handle in yet but I plan to do that so that nobody gets jabbed by the long handle. I tried to position the handle mid level injury risk to the face is minimized. I also installed self closing spring loaded hinges sold here on Amazon and this latch works well with them. I would recommend this latch to a friend and would buy the latch again.

I have to say I’m surprisingly happy with this latch. Bought 2 of them for our 2 gates. The latch is heavy duty, well designed, and very easy to install. Less than 10 minutes each with a socket wrench on my drill. Super easy to line up. It comes set up for a right hand gate, one of my gets is left hand swing, so about an extra 60 seconds to remove 1 bolt and a spring and flip it around. Highly recommended.

Die to not fault of the latch, it does not work for my application. I used it for a double swinging gate where it does not firmly hold the gate. But as a latch goes, this is sturdily built and should work every satisfactorily for a single gate. Recommend it.

This product is exactly as described.This may not be exactly what you are replacing from a previous installation. Follow the instructions.You will need a drill or some strong hands to screw into your fence post.Quality seems like it is constructed well.

I was rebuilding my gate on this side of my house, and was so happy to be able to find this latch, at a really good price.I got a quote for around $1000 to repair my gate, which included rebuilding the wood and framework, and replacing the latch.I did all of the work, reuse, some existing wood, bought a $16 latch, All in it cost me less than $100. Maybe less than $50.

The latch works great and is pretty easy to install. My gates are pretty tight, so I had to chip out some wood on each of the double gates to make this work, but I got it taken care of.FYI - I have this installed on a double wood gate, both 4' wide and about 6.5' tall.

More solid than I was expecting. nice that you can switch the latch to work on any swing gate. will see if it lasts the entire summer, or if it starts to fall apart like others.

I just didn't like to screws that came with it, but that is my thing. I used different screws. The latch is awesome.

Works good and is sturdy. Easily locks the gate and is easy to release it. My only concern is when the black paint wears off, will it rust from the elements. Only time will tell. Something to be aware of. The bracket does stick out about a third of an inch, so the gap between your gate and post needs to be at least that to close.

This works well. Closes easily and stays latched.
