Lottie Lipton is an “investigator extraordinaire” young puzzlers and mystery buffs will love!
Nine-year-old Lottie Lipton found herself very much at home in the Great Library at the British Museum. In fact, it really was her home! Lottie had begun to live at the museum after the death of her parents. They’d “died in an accident during an archaeological dig in Europe” and she ended up living at the Museum with her great uncle, Professor Bertram West ... Uncle Bert, for short. The British Museum was not only Lottie’s home, but also doubled as her school. Uncle Bert was in charge of her education as well. What better place to learn about history than at a museum? Some of the tourists wondered why there were so many books in The Great Library. In fact there were some 65,000 of them! There are books,” she explained, that “are here by Royal Appointment.” King George III left them to the museum in 1828, “exactly one hundred years” before. Sir Trevelyan Taylor, the Head Curator of the Museum, was not impressed by Lottie’s knowledge. “This is a museum,” he declared to Lottie, “Not your private playground.” Grump, grump, grump!Sir Trevelyan was not only not interested in Lottie’s knowledge, but didn’t care much at all for the Great Library. In fact, he was planning on getting rid of the collection and bluntly said that he was “going to sell them to the highest bidder.” Oh, my! The only way that anyone could prove that King George III wanted the collection in the Museum was to find the ultra-rare “scroll from the Library of Alexandria.” It was hidden somewhere inside the British Museum, but where on Earth could it be? If anyone could find it, Lottie Lipton could!Lottie Lipton is an “investigator extraordinaire” young puzzlers and mystery buffs will love! Many books for ‘tweens and teens have puzzles that are integrated into the plot lines that help solve mysteries. These have been beyond the puzzling talents of younger readers ... that is until Lottie came along. There are several puzzles (anagrams and pigpen ciphers) that will get youngsters to put on their thinking caps. Not only will they be able to become investigators extraordinaire themselves, but will learn some interesting facts about British history while doing their investigations. In the back is a glossary, extra puzzles, and a few interesting historical facts.Age Range: 4 to 8Grade Level: 3 to 4Reading Level: 3THE ADVENTURES OF LOTTIE LIPTON: The Catacombs of Chaos The Curse of the Cairo Cat The Eagle of Rome The Egyptian Enchantment The Scroll of Alexandria The Secrets of the Stone This book courtesy of the publisher.

Fun, fast paced, intelligent fiction for kids (and adults!)
Join Lottie on a fast paced adventure as she journeys beneath the British museum on a quest to save the library's precious book collection. I absolutely loved this book! It feels fresh and unique with a fun cast of characters. I loved the inclusion of puzzles which are suitably challenging for kids and engage the reader in the action. It's refreshing to see a mix of generations work together to solve a mystery (rather than the kids having the adventure while the adults stay at home etc). This makes for a great read for all the family. I also appreciated the sense of adventure without it being scary, mean or inappropriate for the age group.I read a LOT of children's fiction, but it's been a while since I felt moved to write a review. This book deserves it. Great job Dan!

Lovely Lottie Lipton
It is an interesting novel for kids. Lottie Lipton does a lot of adventurous things. The book was like a treasure hunt... where she deals with a lot of clues, cracks them to finally get hold of the Scroll of Alexandria.
