Most terms are derived from Latin and Greek roots, so once you learn those roots, it's easy to piece the meaning of words together. The book covers rules for building medical terminology, prefixes and suffixes, and then names for each of the major systems in the body, from the reproductive system to the musculoskeletal system. As a bonus, the book comes with links to Flash cards to help you better memorize terms and helpful videos. Overall, an indispensable tool for medical professionals.

Medical Terminology Easy to Understand and Make Sense of No Sense Words
Awesome Book. Breaks down Prefixes, Word Roots, Suffixes, Combining Vowel so that you can understand and make meaning out of some of the terms. Some are more difficult and don't make any sense.

Okay..
The book does indeed contain some common medical terms but the author seems to confuse themselves on certain terms. I have a medical background so I was able to detect some misunderstandings. Awkward word choices seem to inaccurately provide meaning to words. It can really misguide a reader with no medical background. While I can’t list all of the misuse of words, I would pick out some of them and list here.Spasm isn’t pain, it is an involuntary muscular contraction, such as esophageal spasm - abnormal contraction in the esophagus. The author makes the interpretation confusing and worthless, such as when trying to decipher the meaning of the word - cardiomegaly - which simply means a large heart, that’s it. There was awkward word choice for describing tachycardia - instead of saying “quickening” of the heart rate, the accepted word would be “rapid” heart rate. The meaning of anemia as the author had incorrectly stated isn’t “low in blood”, that is called hypovolemia. Anemia means low in blood cells. The meaning of erythropoietin ( EPO ) is much more than just a “substance”, it is a cytokine which signals the kidney to produce blood cells or ( erythrocytes ) in conditions of hypoxia. There is a difference between an opthalmologist - which is a medical doctor that can prescribe and has license to perform eye surgeries. Optometrist is not a medical doctor, and specializes in vision care and prescribing glasses. This book needs editing and proofread. For the amount of inaccurate information, it isn’t worth $3.99, but maybe .99 cents.

Informative and easy to read.
I am an RN and haven't practiced in several years and this was a perfect book to refresh my knowledge. It wasn't too complicated and was actually easier to understand and retain the information than most of my old textbooks from school. Definately a must read if you are either new to the medical field or just want to learn the terminology.

I am not medical professional, found it easy to follow
I have always been interested in medical terminology. I like the breakdown of the complex descriptions.I decided to read quickly, which allowed me to benefit from the repetitious use of prefix and suffix.Loved the step by step process, made a lot of sense. The educational content is great, but I am not a medical professional.
