How do you fasten the sash? Can I put button pins on it?

The sash comes already fastened. I think you could button pins on it as long as they weren't too heavy or numerous.

Is this made of actual fabric sewn together or is it a 4" ribbon?

Satin or satinish ribbon. We ironed letters on them for queen day

does this have velcro fastner?

No, it is sewn closed a few inches before the end of the material, with the small tail ends being able to separate.
