Great series, must read!
This is the third in the Bolitho series, and just as spellbinding as the first two. If you enjoy great adventure, British history, seafaring plots, great character studies, or any combination of these, you shouldn't miss these tales about life in the British Navy, told from the perspective of a young man who first went to sea at age 12 as a midshipman. He has to deal with life's challenges and growing up while suffering the additional dangers of arrogant and tyrannical superiors, pirates and privateers, the vagaries of shipboard life, the American Revolution, and the loss of good friends along the way. I won't give away plot lines here but highly recommend these well-written and well researched novels. They are a feast for readers who enjoy staying immersed in a tale from beginning to end.

Broken Series
I read the Bolitho series years ago and loved it. I was very happy to see it was on Kindle and decided to read it again. To my dismay, they do not have all of the series. I finished book 4, but they don't offer book 5. Then they have book 6, but not book 7. They have the audio version, which I don't want. And I live in Europe so I can't order the paperbacks or get them from a library. Why would you offer such a large series and not have all the books in the series? The first one that was missing was his adventures on the Sparrow. That was a span of six years of his life! It was when he really matured as a captain. Unacceptable. I have no choice but to abandon this series now. Very sad, I really liked it.

Another very good book in a very good series
While this is the third book in the series it can be read as a standalone book. The book starts with Bolitho a junior lieutenant aboard The Gallant and now involved in the American Revolution. After a boring time in harbor they set out to sea where they are joined by an Admiral who has a plan to thwart the French who are supplying powder and weapons to the Americans. Unfortunately the plan doesn't work out as the Admiral planned. After their ship is repaired they head back to sea and have one more chance at redemption. All in all a very good read.

Do you like hisroic sea novels?
I am a fan of this genre of 17th and 18th sea farers, sailing vessels and wartime exploits. This series is very good as it starts out when a boy from generations of sea captains goes to sea at the age of 12. He is prompoted up through the ranks of officers and becomes a captain, using all the skills and knowlege, good and bad, passed on to hi through the captians he served under. Great series!

Very good naval fiction
"In Gallant Company" is an engrossing tale of the British Navy fighting against the American Revolutionairies, which makes it of particular interest to the American reader. In this story the protagonist, Lieutenant Richard Bolitho of the British Navy, is assigned to a Ship of the Line which is trying to suppress the shipments of arms by France to the American Revolutionaries. The author's British perspective view of the Revolution is interesting, and this story is well-written and holds the reader's interest throughout. As an American (of English descent) I particularly enjoyed this one, and I must confess that I was in the odd position of rooting against the English in favor of my Americans. Nonetheless, this is an enjoyable reading experience for the American reader who enjoyes taught naval fiction. The author's prose is quite good, although I will say that C.S. Forester's, in the Hornblower series, is better. At times I had trouble following exactly what was going on in some of the action scenes. No matter, most readers will enjoy this one. I did. RJB.

Good book
This series is worth reading though its more like the tv show you put on to have in the background. Worth watching but not worth giving your full attention to. The scenes are often confusing and make me wish there was another Dewey Lambdin or Dudley Pope novel to read. Still a good read and worth it.

Another stirring adventure
Another thrilling chapter in the saga of Richard Bolitho. Set against the backdrop of the American Revolution, this is a grand story of adventure and non-stop action. Great characters, great challenges, and more than a few moments of sadness. A truly enjoyable read.

In Gallant Company
In the third installment of this excellent series, Richard Bolitho continues learning the lessons of leadership in the education of a young naval officer. Of particular note here are the inclusion, in the story, of British naval activities during our revolutionary war during 1777. This story, and, the series lacks the full character development of the Hornblower stories. Even with this comparative difference, there is plenty of detail in the Bolitho tales. What we have here are stories that are rendered with precision detail of the men and the ships during the heyday of the British Navy during the golden age of sail.Well done.

Great read!
Has to be a clear five stars. A great read that I couldn't put down. Have to say - better than Hornblower, Lewrie etc. More about the people and their feelings. It's good to read about vulnerability, rather than just their brave deeds. It makes it "real", to some extent, and you makes you wonder what the lives of those of the period were really like.

Third time lucky.
Probably the third time of reading, still a good story covering the ascendancy of Richard B. The Navy was a hard taskmaster and not a particularly easy life for officers or rank and file.

ACTION FILLED YARN.
Another actio-packed tale of the 18th century Royal Navy. Kent (Reeman) has created a superb character in Richard Bolitho. Lots of fighting, but also a realistic depiction of lifer at sea in the age of sail.
