Created by Blackmagicdesign to work exclusively with their DaVinci Resolve video editing software, the Speed Editor is a joy to use. Yes, it’s expensive but it’s a niche product and beautifully engineered.Blackmagic supply studio and post production equipment to television and film studios, and the Speed Editor keyboard is part of that range. As the name suggests it speeds up the editing process, but it also offers far more precision than working with a mouse and conventional keyboard. At the same time, it co-exisits with any existing keyboard so that you can move seamlessly from one to the other according to the task in hand.The keyboard connects via Bluetooth or USB-C cable, and the cable can also be used to charge the internal battery. The keyboard has precision “clicky” keys for the most common video editing operations such as trim, cut and so on, but the best feature is the precision engineered jog/shuttle knob. The knob is a solid piece of metal that floats on ball bearings and there’s a finger recess on the top for controlling the wheel.As mentioned earlier, the Speed Editor works exclusively with the Da Vinci Resolve software but it’s worth adding that the software (DaVinci resolve 17.3 at the time of writing) is free. There is a professional version for around £280, with which you get a free Speed Editor, but only those involved in broadcast or movie production would require the additional facilities.I have used a variety of video editors and DaVinci Resolve is far superior to any paid-for package I’ve used. It is clearly designed by people who know the video business and, combined with the Speed Editor, it makes video editing both intuitive and satisfying.

Value for money, easy to connect and use.

I’m an amateur movie maker who has just swapped up my video editing platform from the good but basic iMovie to DaVinci Resolve. That’s a steep learning curve but this great little box of tricks really helps with the basics and speeds up workflow considerably.It is solidly built, with a full metal case and nice chunky keys, with a well-weighted wheel to spin through footage. A vastly better way of editing than using a mouse or trackpad.One downside is that it comes with no instructions and you have to hunt them down online. Even when you do they are not aimed at a beginner so there is a lot to learn.So why only 4 stars instead of 5? Well, I’ve marked it down because the Bluetooth interface is terrible. As is commonly reported by other users, the unit is very susceptible to interference from other Bluetooth devices making it impossible to use that way. It’s not that much of a pain connecting via the supplied USB C cable but even so it’s annoying.

Just wish it had an 'OFF' switch as every time it is in range of my Macbook Pro's BluTooth the battery starts running down. Otherwise Excellent, really pleased with my purchase.

I’ve been lent one of these and I’m using it with the free version of Resolve to edit video and sound recorded at weekly local church services to post on YouTube. Resolve was a step up from iMovie when I upgraded my old iMac to a new MacBook Pro. I’d got up to speed with keyboard shortcuts but this editor adds a new dimension. My raw footage doesn’t need reordering, so I skip over any pre prep in the Cut panel and jump straight into Resolve’s Edit panel, so many of the buttons that work best in the Cut panel are superfluous, but the wheel is a game changer when it comes to positioning on the timeline. When (or if) I need to return it I’ll seriously consider buying my own - not an essential tool but one that makes a surprising difference.

The editor is worthwhile in its own right. The dedicated keys for editing and the wheel for navigating your video greatly speed up your workflow.But the pricing for Davinci Resolve make it a no-brainer: $360 for the software alone or $390 for the software package plus the hardware editor.

comprata con la formula "usato come nuovo" che mi ha permesso di risparmiare. la tastiera è di una qualità superiore e si sente al tatto per i materiali usati e la precisione nell'uso. il suo peso fa sì che rimanga stabile sul piano di lavoro. quello che trovo eccezionale è l'uso di questa tastiera consente ci controllare la fase di montaggio del video e di rimanere concentrato sul lavoro in corso. con una sola mano si ha il centro di controllo della produzione e quindi oltre ad ottimizzare le attività con un bel risparmio di tempo tutto risulta più semplice. bisogna prenderci un po l'abitudine per avere la memoria della disposizione dei tasti ma basta un'ora per avere totale confidenza. la consiglio anche se forse non l'avrei mai comprata al suo prezzo "nuovo" in quanto la trovo un po cara.una nota al venditore: la confezione è arrivata senza la licenza di Davinci resolve. l'ho segnalato e ho avuto un immediata risposta e assistenza da parte del venditore. abbiamo così risolto il problema in un istante. veramente serio e professionale.
