Learning Resources Pretend & Play Teaching Cash Register

I bought this for Christmas for our 3 year old daughter. Although she wasn’t initially very excited about it (I think she wasn’t totally sure what it was), it has since become one of her go-to toys. I did a lot of looking for the perfect cash register and I am happy with this selection. Although I think my daughter would have been more excited by a character cash register (e.g. Minnie Mouse), this is a toy I can see her using well into elementary, if not middle, school. Ultimately, I was deciding between this model and the Learning Resources Pretend and Play Calculator Cash Register. Ultimately this model won out for the following reasons: - Ability to use real or pretend coins in the coin counter – adds to the educational value of the toy - Scanner makes it more realistic for playing “grocery store” and goes well with our play kitchen, play food and shopping cart - Cash register talks, which allows there to be educational play even without an adult - Overall nicer look to the cash register and, especially considering the extra features, not that much more expensive Pros - Easy enough for my 3 year old to play with as is, but with enough added functionality that the toy will easily grow with her - Scanning function is a blast! As you scan an item over the button (play food works great for this), the register rings up and speaks a price. Randomly, things are on special and the register says, “Weekly Special” or something like that. She gets a kick out of it. - Comes with a pretend coupon card and credit card which adds to the reality of it because she can shop just like Mommy. - Ability to use both real and fake coins and the register says what each coin is as they are inserted into the coin slot. The display also shows the value of the coin. - Four learning games built into the register that each have three levels so that play can grow with the child. There are really only one or two games she could play right now, but this will be nice to have as she gets older. Cons - When used correctly, the scanner doesn’t beep when an item is scanned. Instead the internal voice quotes a random price (for example, “5 dollars and 35 cents”). The only way to get the scanner to beep is if the drawer or the coin bank door is open (and it’s beeping to indicate the drawer is open), but then it doesn’t “ring up” the items being scanned. This is disappointing because my daughter would really like the beeping noise – we have to make our own beeps or not have the ring up voice! It would be nice if the manufacturer added the beep in addition to the voice quote. - As other reviews have mentioned, the drawer flies open with a lot of speed, which results in the coins flying open. We’ve taught our daughter to put her hand by the drawer to catch it as it opens, which she does most of the time. This isn’t a big deal, but would be nice if this were improved on by the company. Overall, I am very happy with this cash register and would highly recommend it! It’s a great make believe and educational toy that I think we’ll get many years of play out of.

Wonderful learning tool for little ones. Teaches coin recognition, addition, subtraction, and also has quizzes for when the kids get a little older the cash register talks and also includes a scanner (lots of fun), coin slot, credit card that can be scanned, coupon card also scannable and lots of play money that actually looks real. and the best part...real coins can also be used...the cash register recognizes them as well. the scanner scans anything...so if you have play food items around...or real food items...they will be "scanned". (of course...the cash register makes up the prices...so it was rather hilarious to purchase a jello box, a can of beans and a juice box for the grand total of $156.71!!!! the only cons are as follows: 1. the cash register drawer FLIES open! the coins scatter everywhere...so the little one has to try to remember to keep his/her hand there to prevent that from happening...something that the little ones never remember...so be prepared to find coins all over the place. 2. the batteries have to be put in by turning the cash register up-side-down to access the battery compartment. wish they had mentioned that in the instructions since we had already in our excitement put all the coins and paper money into the drawer. unfortunately, when the cash register is turned up-side-down when full...the cash comes out and also can get stuck inside the machine. 3. there is a yellow part to the bank that says "coin bank" ...right below the coin slot. this must be pressed to the down position for the machine to work. that was a little annoying at first. other than these cons...the cash register is very realistic and a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, I wasted a little bit (or more) of money this holiday season. I'm glad to say that this particular toy was absolutely NOT a waste. I had the older model for my older kids, but got rid of that one when they outgrew it. Remembering how much they enjoyed playing with it (we even used it for our garage sale), I bought this one for my youngest daughter, who is four. This is an excellent cash register! It comes with a lot of play money and provides hours of learning fun. Really, my daughter just loves playing store, scanning items, using her "Kroger Card" and the credit card. She enjoys hearing the machine say "Credit Approved" (or declined!), and she loves putting the coins in the coin slot and having the register recognize which coin it was. This cash register has many more features than the older one (which I truly liked), and that adds to the play value, I suppose, especially for a younger child. There are some simple math games on this one, too, but the games are really geared to kids just a bit older than 4. However, my daughter has only had this for 2 days and she has already started to grasp some money concepts that she didn't have before. We've gone over coin values and she's undertanding that the paper money has different values, as well-- although we really haven't begun to go over that. And, interestingly enough, she's asked about some of the figures on the bills and the coins. She's especially interested in Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln. This is a great toy. And, as I mentioned before, it really does work as a cash register, as well. So, you can use it for simple sales such as garage sales, lemonade stands, etc.

I bought this Learning Resources cash register for my three year old granddaughter for Christmas. Let me say up front that I am a Learning Resources fan. I discovered them nearly two years ago, have purchased several products through Amazon, and I have never been disappointed. I don't know what they use to make their toys but I'm convinced they would survive a catastrophic disaster, unscathed. OK, so with that disclaimer...on to my granddaughter's and my assessment of this register. Some of my granddaughter's favorite features: 1. She puts coins into the coin slot and the cash register tells her the worth of each piece. 2. The credit card beeps when she slides the card in its slot. 3. She can 'scan' anything...her hairbrush, her box of raisins, whatever...and the cash register assigns a price to it. She has no idea the assignment is random. 4. She can open and close the drawer, collect and store payment from her customers, and give change. 5. The buttons actually do something. They aren't like her 'baby toys' where buttons don't change anything. 6. The scale registers a weight of sorts as she puts items on it. Some features her grandmother found appealing: 1. This thing appears to be indestructable...did I mention that already? I'm serious...if I had a day care, I would consider this an essential component. It's that durable. 2. The money, both coins and bills, is the right size and looks pretty realistic. 3. The register can grow with her. Right now, my granddaughter is enthralled with the actions associated with operating a cash register...pushing buttons and making something happen, scanning anything in sight, handling money, etc. Later on, she will be able to learn math principles. The calculator in the register really works. It tells her what each coin is worth. It will help her learn to count coins and to calculate change. A couple of points...this toy is definitely for children old enough to not consume little pieces of things. We put all the money out of reach whenever my 20 month old grandson was anywhere in the victinity. Also, the register has no microphone to use to request a price check. One of my friends considers that a critical component for any toy register, so for her this one is not an option.

Ok - yes, the drawer pops out at you and can spill the coins, but my 3 year old loves it and quickly figured out how to hold the drawer so it doesn't lose all the money - no big deal really. Everything else works great. I personally love the easy-to-slide-over scanner which gives a different amount for each scan (not like other scanners that are limited to the bar codes that come with them). The money that it comes with is realistic in size and the coin identifier is a great learning tool. The additional learning games will give our kid more learning time as she grows older, so I think this toy will be a great, long-lasting one!

I bought this cash register as a gift for my nephews (ages 2, 5, and 7) and it was their favorite gift. They would rather play with the cash register than watch TV, I think that's saying something. It has awesome features. I love the scanner button, it makes up prices for things when you push it down. You can also manually enter prices for items, then you can get the total for the purchases and either pay with the credit card given (and there's a coupon card too which is neat) or pay with the pretend money provided. If paying cash, the kids can put in the amount given and it will tell them the change to give or if there is more money owed. Besides the traditional cash register features, which are awesome, it also has four different activities with three difficulty levels for each that the child can play. It has a coin bank that recognizes the different coins so the child can learn which coins are which and how much they are worth. It also has addition, subtraction, and number recognition for practice. The kids absolutely love this cash register. The older boys enjoy ringing up purchases and making up ridiculous prices for items while the youngest just like pushing the buttons and putting coins into the coin bank slot. I would definitely get this as a gift for other children and hopefully my own someday because honestly, I am jealous that I didn't get these cool toys when I was growing up and I did play with it by myself for a few minutes, you know...just to check out the features...

I can not say enough good things about this register. I did LOTS of research to find one that didn't have bad reviews. This one is worth every penny. I got it for my 3 year old to play with and I had no ideal how many features it had and how she can play with this toy for a VERY long time. There are even games programed into the register for when she starts to learn about money. It will as for a quarter and she will have to put a quarter in the coin slot and the machine will say if it was right or try again, this machine is one smart and neat thing. It has 3 volume settings which is nice. It has a working beeping scanner on the belt to ring things up, it has a coin slot that actually tells you what type of coin you just put in, it has a credit card/coupon reader which actually takes money off of the total if you use the coupon card. The scale is also cool and even has a zeroer in the back to zero out the scale like a real scale. (Note on the sale you have to put the top piece on yourself and you have to hold the stick tight and up and push down hard on the top piece to you hear a LOUD click that it is in right. We did not know this so we put super glue on the top piece and went to put it on and i was struggling so my husband held the stick up and tight so i could push down without the stick going down and than we hear a loud click and it made sense why it wouldn't stay on before we didn't have it down right LOL oh well the piece won't be going anywhere now haha)... I think this is one of my favorite purchases by far! My husband couldn't believe how nice it was when it came out of the box he was goes "WOW this is a real register and nice" cause looking at the picture it looks cheap and just plain but its no where near just plain or cheap

The toy is a hit plain and simple. The kids have been playing with it since we opened it. The build quality seems exceptional, The design is really good and the children "just get" the toy. Their imaginations are running wild (8 and 3 year old). The register "talks" to you when you turn it on and when you rund products over the counter. Unlock other products, this register does not require special grocery items with the RFID embedded as it works when you push a spring loaded "sensor" on the counter. The price for the item is arbitrary of course, but who cares because unlock the RFID types, this ALWAYS works (lot of complaints with the fancy RFID models and they require special grocery items to work). The register requires 3 C size batteries that secure underneath with a small phillips head screw. The only assembly (other than batteries) is a small scale that pushes onto the register and the unpacking of the money that comes with the register (coins and bills). However, potential purchasers should take note of the following: -The coins are a choking hazard. If you are worried about choking, simply do not unpack the coins and only use the dollar bills until your child is old enough for you not to worry. No other parts of this toy present a choking hazard. -Drawer springs out forcefully. This presents absolutely no danger but perhaps a little frustration since some coins fly out of the drawer. There are two things you cn do to prevent this from happening. The first is to teach your child to block the drawer with their hip just like real cashiers often do. The second is to put some type of rubber mat (available from home depot) on the bottom of the coin compartments. This will prevent the coings from flying out. Overall I was so pleased with this item I wanted to get a review up. I see this register being one of those toys we will have for years.

お金に興味が出てきて、おままごとやお買い物ごっこ？ができるようになってきた子の3歳の誕生日に選びました。 ほかの類似商品に比べてやや高めの価格なのと、海外製品のため初期不良や耐久性に不安を覚えつつも 「光る、音が出る、おしゃべりする（簡単な英語に親しめる）」「レジ清算、計算機能だけでなく、足し算や引き算、数当てなどのゲームができる」「コイン投入口がある」「重さを計る計量器っぽいのがある」「コイン、紙幣がそこそこ付属してて結構リアル」「クレジットカード、クーポンカードつき」「よくある日本のバーコードリーダーではなく台に滑らせる形が小さい子にも扱いやすそう」など シンプルながら大人から見ても機能十分で、これで遊んだら楽しそうだな、と思える点が多く思い切って購入。（ちなみに5歳の子もいるため一緒に遊べたらお得だと思いました） ストアからは無駄のないしっかりした梱包で即発送していただき、誕生日当日まで待って電池投入。いざ子供達の前に置いて起動した瞬間、ほああああ！と興奮しまくった5歳3歳が説明する間もなく北斗神拳のごとくボタンを連打連打連打！「ちょっと待って、まずここを押すと…」と説明する間もなくひたすらピピピピピピと押しまくり、レジ箱が勢い良く開くともう大興奮。おしゃべり機能もレジ計算機能もまったく関係なしにピピピピピガシャーン「ごひゃくえんで～す！」と遊び始める子供達。これはこれで良いのですが、せっかく多機能がついているのだから他の部分も注目してもらいたい。 埒が明かないので付属のコインを袋から出し、「ほら見て！」とコイン投入口に入れてみせると、今度はそっちに猛烈に食いつき、延々とコインを入れ続けては出し、二枚同時に入れて詰まらせたり、レジ箱もガシャンガシャンやるためコインが（軽いので）あちこち飛んでいきカオスに。 気が付くと、おしゃべりのワンフレーズも聞く暇もなく、ものの数分でどのボタンを押しても「ピッ」「ピッ」としか音が出なくなり、ディスプレイ表示もずっと変化しない状態になってしまいました。 「まさか壊れた！？子供の玩具なのにこの程度でそんな馬鹿な…」と一旦子供を強制終了させ、説明書を見て見ると、電池の部分あたりにリセットボタンがあり、さらに、コイン取り出し口あたりにセンサー？があるらしく、ここがしっかり閉まっていないと正常に動かないらしい。 ひとまずリセットし、コインケースもしっかり閉め、もう一度起動し直してみると、また表示もはじめのように元に戻り「Welcome!」「Let's play!」おしゃべり機能も健在でひと安心でした。 一通りいじくりまわして落ち着いてからは、5歳の子が足し算引き算ゲームに挑戦したり、3歳はコインを入れる遊びがお気に入りで、ポーチにもコインを入れて持ち歩いたりとそれぞれ楽しく遊んでいます。 年齢層的にはやはり、5～6歳くらいからのほうが落ち着いてルールに沿った遊び、レジ（お金のやりとりをする買い物ごっこ）遊びができると思います。小学生まで十分遊べそうです。 積み木、お人形、ブロック、ままごと、楽器、運動器具などの幼児向け玩具はだいたい持っている。次は何にしよう？と迷ってる方には次のステップとしておすすめです。

This is an awesome little cash register sturdy good quality and does what it says.. My little one loves it he is 4 and there is still a lot of play left in it since he is not able to use all the functions fully yet. The reason I gave it 4 starts was because when I read the reviews and description I didn't see anywhere that this cash register is American! Money is in dollars and the lady talks in dollars and dimes and nickels and that is so confusing for us :-( wish I had remembered to check that instead of assuming it's sold in UK it must be in pounds!

光らないし音が鳴りませんし、メッセージも流れません。 クーポンも含まれていませんでしたし4つのゲームももちろんできず、計算機機能も使えませんでした。 時間がたっても自動でオフにはなりませんし、画面におかしな文字がでたままで全てにおいて故障した状態の物が届き、非常に残念でした。
