'Arty Hill is currently setting the bar for male country singers.' - John Conquest, 3rd Coast Music Magazine 'Some call this music modern honky tonk. Heck, this is the way country music should sound, period.' - Elmore Magazine From Baltimore, MD to Central Texas, Arty Hill is packing the bars and dance floors with his unique brand of Modern Honky Tonk. He sings with an ''everyman' quality...reminiscent of Johnny Cash.' (Vintage Guitar Magazine). His songs - marrying the soul of classic country with the wry storytelling of Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt - have been recorded by Rockabilly Queen Bee Marti Brom, Austin's Texas Sapphires, the Grammy-nominated Kenny and Amanda Smith Band, and award-winning Alt-Country pioneers Jason & the Scorchers. And with his recordings topping the FAR chart, it's no wonder Rambles.net calls him 'a country songwriter of the first order.' His latest recording, 'Another Lost Highway,' is an epic combination of bluegrass, Texas shuffles, big rockers and ballads. 'From 'Victoria's Secret Is Safe With Me' to 'Halfway House' to 'Blackwater Wildlife,' Arty Hill and band deliver 12 radio-ready tunes that eclipse anything else being released today under the 'country' label.' Bruce Price (KNON, Dallas, TX) Review: Better Again - I don,t know if its his affinity with Hank or what but every time I here Arty I enjoy him more. From when I first seen him at SXSW 2009 he has kept growing in all facets and he is on my bucket list to see live again where ever that may be. I would recommend Arty to any body.... Review: Wow! - ANOTHER LOST HIGHWAY is Arty Hill's newest CD and it continues his string of nothing-short-of-outstanding music. This one contains Hill's usual - often in the same song - mix of rockabilly ("Halfway House"); rock and roll ("Blackwater Wildlife"); country shuffles ("Mae Dawn", "Victoria's Secret"); weepers ("Another Lost Highway"); and honky tonk (pretty much all of them). Hill's singing has never been better nor has his guitar work. Of special mention is "Omaha ICU", a song about a drug overdose; a subject you'll agree is not exactly a honky tonk staple. Hill has a special talent for writing innovative lyrics, for example from "12 Pack Morning": "Sunrise like to burn me down, til a big blue Ribbon brought me around." Or from "Another Lost Highway": "Down this road I'm goin', dyin' to make a deal, Money does the drivin', I don't even hold the wheel." I don't think you can beat that line. And as always, the other musicians are perfect, and I want to give a special mention to Jack O'Dell, a terrific drummer who, based on my very limited contact with him, is a truly nice and genuine man. While ANOTHER LOST HIGHWAY is apparently available only as an MP3 on desertcart, you can also get it on CD by going to the website artyhill.com. If the music I've described here and the lyrics I've quoted appeal to you, buy this CD.
