Mini version
This is a bit of a mini reboot of the retro toy lite bright, the original toy from the 60’s. This set consists of the mini light up peg board plus the coloured pegs to make images with. A few templates are supplied or you can play freestyle. The unit is battery operated with 3xAAA batteries which are supplied.I feel this toy is quite small but still fun to play with, the only thing i think that lets it down is that although it is a small and portable toy, i would have liked to have been able to store the pegs within the unit so that they are neatly kept together.About £10 (at the time of review) is acceptable, because of the size i feel it is a little limited though.

Rather retro and basic version of pixel art
This feels like a toy that’s dropped through a time wormhole from the 1980’s. The chunky black-and-white plastic construction with pieces that look like they’ve come off a board game, the AAA batteries behind a thick screw panel with a chunky on/off switch, all of it could’ve been on a toy I had when I was younger. The effect is really quite pleasant. The plastic pieces light up when switched on and they are brighter than I expected, clearly visible in daylight and able to cast quite a light in a darkened room. They look particularly good in the dark and could potentially have made a good design-your-own-nightlight set-up.However, the fact it only runs on AAA batteries, with no direct cable input and no internal rechargeable battery, mean that I don’t want my kids using it as a night light. There’s no automatic off timer so inevitably it will just chomp through AAA batteries and run them flat, repeatedly. The chunky size of the battery compartment could easily have housed a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a microUSB input socket for example, and that one little change would’ve meant I’d have been happy for one of my kids to leave it on all night if they wanted to.There are four designs included, and those designs are repeated several times. The instruction cards aren’t actually that helpful, because they don’t allow you to count the size of the spaces between each shape, but the pictures of the same designs on the back of the box are more useful. The four designs do highlight the fact that since you’re limited to four classic neon colours (pink yellow blue and green), there’s not a lot of variety to what you can do with your imagination. My son did a really good job of a train shape though to be fair, but as the “LOL” design demonstrates, you are realistically limited to 3 letters at most.Ages 4+ is probably a fair assessment, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone younger than that because of the small pieces of colourful plastic and the fact that even the most sensible and mature three-year-olds can still spontaneously shove stuff in their mouth sometimes.Pixel art toys are a big hit with my kids, but their expectations about what they can do are already beyond what this toy can do. It’s a bit of fun, and not very expensive at time of writing, but rather retro, and I think a lot of kids might expect a bit more from a toy this size than what this toy is capable of.

Great fun art kit
Great little kit to keep your kids happy for a while. The box is lovely and compact so you can nip it in your bag to keep the kids entertained in the car and at £9.99 at time of this review it's great value for money. My son enjoyed using the templates to create the LOL in the photo as well as a heart and rainbow. You can also create your own designs. Once completed you can flip the switch in the back to make it light up which my son loved. It does require 3 x AA batteries if you want it to light up which are not included. Due to the small led parts I would not recommend this to children under 3 years and would supervise children under 5 whilst using. This kit helps to improve and develop your child's hand eye coordination, fine motor skills and cognitive development whilst having fun. The kit includes 70 mini pegs in white, yellow, blue, pink, orange and green and 4 beautiful design templates to follow. Excellent value for money and would make a greta gift. Highly recommend
