After Less than a year the Philips AVENT monitor fails to turn on...Here are my thoughts.
Hello,This product is good when it is working. We bought the Philips Avent baby monitor AUG 2016, as of last night APR 2017 this baby monitoring system has failed our family. It seems like the main monitor won't power on due to power supply problems. The power cords are fine and it does show a connection when plugged in to the monitor, but the monitor will still not turn on when holding down or tapping the power switch. I will be reaching out to Philips to see about their Warranty, they are suppose to have a 2 year coverage of this product assuming that you are not at fault in anyway. Their customer service is open from Mon - Sat 9am - 6pm. (1-800-542-8368)Customer Service Experience:- Excellent Customer service.> The Philips AVENT customer services are very good. They listen and try to go through troubleshooting steps with you. The first representative collected all my information such as the product model number and what happened while creating an account for me. I then lost the call and thought to myself, "Oh no, I will have to start a new call and repeat everything I have to say." When I called back the second representative already had all my information and informed me that all I had to do is update them on the products serial number. This is great because I hate repeating myself.- Will Require the product to be available at the time of call.- Representative will require the serial number, manufacture model information, date of purchase and your contact / shipping information.- Once you have provided all necessary information, Philips AVENT will send you a replacement device with a pre-paid shipping label for you to send back the defective components.Product PROS and CONS:PROS:- Reception is great. I have a single family home about 2100 sqft and will have connections between the Parent Monitor and the Camera through out my entire house. I also have .25 acres of land and will get reception to the edge of the perimeter of my property. I did not go pass my property. Other reviews has indicated 900 feet reception link.- This system is not WIFI based. Not being WIFI enabled is a PRO because of security. The likely hood of someone being able to hijack your video and monitor feed is very low. I don't have to worry about some creep hacking in to see my baby or me.- The power source is standard MICRO USB. The provided power source is a long MICRO USB charging cord. You get 2, one for the camera and one for the Parental Monitor.- The camera has night vision.- You can have 2way communication. The camera has a micro phone to feed to the Parental Monitor. The Parental Monitor acts like a walkie talkie where you have to press and hold a button to communicate through the camera.- The Parental Monitor can control music and volume funcations to be played through the camera.- The Parental Monitor can toggle through several settings to enable just audio, video with sound, ECO (power saver) or VOX,- Great and easy customer service to take advantage of the 2year warranty provided by PHILIPS AVENT.CONS:- There is a lot of white noise when turning up the Parental Monitor to the max volume.- The Parental Monitor failed in less then a year.- The Parental Monitor is kind of large and not convenient to carry around the house, especially when you are carrying multiple items.- The Camera had good coverage, but wished the camera had an aim so without the monitor you could easily figure out where you are aiming the camera at. There has been several times where once I set up the camera it is just not centered the way I liked and the internal video toggle could not help.- Toggling around with the Philips AVENT menus was very annoying.- Camera quality is OK, a little gritty.- Music is not great, tried not to use it, afraid it would make my baby cry.- If you are running a MICROWAVE or other equivalent kitchen products you will interrupt or cut off the signal feed between the camera and Parental Monitor. Conclusion: I am not positive if I would purchase the product again. It's simple, but for the price I wish I had more benefits. Please feel free to leave comments. I will be more than happy to answer any questions that I may have not been clear on.

We LOVE it! Definitely worth the money.
We've been using it for 2 weeks and we LOVE it. We have not used other baby monitor but we are very happy with this product. What we love:- High Sound Quality: Sound is more important than video. Sound quality is very impressive. On high volume settings we can clearly hear our baby breathing while she's asleep. I've seen comments about loud background noise but no problem for us. If we mute the volume, it will vibrates which is nice.- Good Picture Quality: Picture quality is not perfect but who needs HD quality for a baby monitor. It's def good enough to see whether our baby's eyes are closed or not in night vision mode.- Reliable Signal: No problem with the signal even with three walls separating the monitor and the camera (around 20ft). We always use it in VOX mode because I need total darkness to sleep so the screen will only lit up when the camera picks up any noises (not background noise but crying noise). Temperature sensor work fines too.- Excellent build quality and cute design: We like the design. It doesn't stick out (colorful or toy looking) like some other baby monitor out there. The biggest reason we picked this one because we know that Philips Avent is an established international brand for baby products and this product definitely is up to their standard. Doesn't feel cheap. Has nice matte finishing on the monitor (not those cheap shiny but slippery plastic).- Long battery life: We tested it few times. It definitely last more than 10Hrs in VOX mode. One of the times we tested it lasted more than 12 hours!- Voltage range: Compatible with 110-240V so we can use it when we travel overseas. This was a must for us. Summer Infant is only 110V.What we don't really like about it:- The talk back function: Voice is choppy if you talk immediately after pressing the talk back button on the monitor unit. After many experiments, we came to a conclusion that we need to hold down the talk button for about one second before we start talking in order to hear our voice clearly. Otherwise, the whole talk session breaks every few seconds.- Lullaby selection is not great but we didn't mind because our daughter has her own SkipHop sheep nightlight/lullaby which she sleeps with every night.Buying Tips: After long research, we decided with this one because we know that Philips Avent is an established international brand for baby products. I'm sure they invested alot in developing this product compared to others such as HelloBaby, BabySense, Infant Optics etc. 110V to 240V was a must for use because we always travel for sometimes few months overseas which was why we didn't pick Summer Infant because all of their products are only compatible with 110V. We didn't go with Angelcare because we re worried those extra functions means more chances of things going wrong because we noticed so many negative comments on baby monitors (Samsung, Motorola etc.). You would think that smartphones are soo advanced that we could at least have reliable and reasonably priced baby monitor. We were not comfortable with wifi function as well because of security reason. We did not receive anything for this review. We just want to help other first time parents like us who must be frustrated with the selection of reliable and reasonably priced baby monitors.

Lasts about a year...
Loved it for the first year and 2 weeks. For a crib monitor the picture and sound were great. It had all the features we needed, LOVED the lullabies feature (they worked like a charm). It worked all over the 2400 sq ft house and 1 acre yard without loss of signal. Then at exactly one year and 2 weeks worth of use the external power button disconnected from the internal power button so it couldn't be turned on anymore. Thankfully it has a 2 year manufacturer warrenty. They only have baby product support via phone, which is inconvenient with babies... they had me clean the button just in case it was sticky, when that dolidn't fix it they listened to me and just sent a new set. The monitor is specific to the camera so we had to rerun the camera too, not just switch the the monitor. After 8 months our oldest son was too tall for a crib and we needed a wide angle lens so we got him a new camera, meaning this one was not in use for 6 months... Our youngest is 2.5 months old and now the replacement monitor charging port is too loose to detect the charger when it is plugged in, we tried several cords, tried wiggling them, nothing works, it no longer detects it is plugged in or charges... So the second one had 8 months use + 2.5 months use before breaking and the first one had one year use before breaking. I would expect better from Philips and anything at this price point. As much as I would love to have this monitor longer, it is outside warrenty now and we know we will have to replace it with something different in 15 months when this baby is too tall for a crib so we are just getting a second of the one with the wide angle option, leaving the wide angle lens off for now, and putting a spare Alexa Dot in the nursery for lullabies when needed...

Glad I picked this one
It was tough going through all the baby moniters out there. I have read reviews for hours and hours trying to make a decision. Baby moniters almost never get high ratings but I went through all of them, laughed at 80% of negative reviews, and finally wound up getting this one. I'm very glad I did and I will give a run down on why I voted this 5 stars.- packaging: was nice and Amazon did their usual: small box Inside a box twice it's size with air packs.- Product looks: Very nice. In the pictures It looks like the moniter is a huge clunker with a small screen but the moniter fits in the hand nicely and is a nice comfortable shape. The back of the moniter, where the stand is, doubles as a clip to easily slide onto a belt, pants, pockets, etc. The camera is also nice looking.-Screen Size: better than expected. In the product pictures I was expecting a smaller screen but I was pleasantly surprised that it is bigger than I thought it would be. Very easy to see.-Resolution: better than expected. It's not some high definition 1080p 4k ultra HD mind blowing clarity. It's a baby moniter, people... I have seen quite a few of friends and family and this is the best one I have seen that is not a Wi-Fi camera. The picture quality is awesome in daytime light. Closing blinds causes the quality to drop a little bit and that awkward stage between day and night-vision is less quality (obviously) but even then, it is still great picture for what this is used for! The night-vision works well and I haven't had any issues with distance as other reviews stated..and I tested it..-Signal: a LOT better than expexted. We actually own a really nice Wi-Fi camera that we bought for our pup. It has awesome picture and does all the pan/tilt and does more than this camera can do. But this one is for our baby and we wanted one that was NOT on WiFi and was a secure private and fast connection. This moniter has very nice, quick refresh rate so movements and sound are practically real time live. The signal strength was a concern as the nursery is on the 3rd floor, front of house and most bad reviews on ALL the baby I have viewed are on poor signal strength. So I was VERY impressed when I went down to the basement and garage and even outside on the 1st floor and there was no loss in signal... It dropped down and went between 2 and 3 bars(out of 3!) at my furthest testing point.- Options: the options were as expected. It has a nice 2x zoom function in case you are like me and mounting this high in the nursery corner. It just helps zoom in if you want a closer look, then you can pan around the picture with the buttons on the moniter. It has cute lullabies (5 of them) and the volume adjusts easily. The camera itself has a soft orange nightlight that you can turn on but only from a button on the camera itself. The vibrate functions are strong which is good if you are sleeping but a nuisance if you have this on a table during the day. So you can turn vibrate off completely or, as I did, on "only vibrate when on silent". It reads temperature and from my testing, accurately. The temperature also has a nice feature which you can turn on or off which beeps, vibrates, and displays when you are outside the limits both below and above (which you set as low or high as you want). It has volume sensitivity that you can also set for the microphone for when baby makes noise. 2 modes (eco and vox) keep your display off until noise is detected to save battery, which is great. As well as regular full time video and audio only modes.-Battery life: so far the battery life is good-Sound. The moniter has great volume and so does the camera for its size. Both volumes can be adjusted through the options on the moniter. The microphone to speak through the moniter to the nursery has a delay which in my opinion is good! If you accidently press the Mic button, it's not going to click or send your baby sound by accident which would not be good. You have to press the button and start talking after a moment of pressing and holding the button. as soon as the button is released it immediately cuts off.Price: Standard and Very reasonable considering the quality- Cons: my only wish is that the swivel of the mount had just a LITTLE more movement. I just had to adjust how I mounted it, so it's not that big of a deal bit it's literally the only con I could think of.- Other notes: for those hilarious reviews about the camera having an LED on all the time please keep reading.. I had this ingenious, revolutionary, game changing idea that I will give away to the world. And the best part? For FREE! That's right folks so here it is! Tape.... white tape.. black tape... colourful tape.. stickers... The customization options are endless! I know... impressive. You are so very welcome.

Good, but you should know 2 things about the design up front.
We had this for a year and it worked very well until it stopped suddenly. I took it apart to repair and discovered two weak points in its design you should know before using. 1) the USB power insert on the monitor came completely off the circuit board after one year of use, so you need to be very gentle when plugging it in. Try to avoid stress or strain on the power insert caused by the power cable. 2) the power button mechanism is incredibly fragile. Now that I've seen how it's built, I would have tried to turn it off and on as little as possible. If either of these two tiny components fail, the whole thing is completely useless. I'll probably buy another b/c it's a good product... just wish those two critical components were designed with a little more durability in mind.

Best monitor so far
Tried several monitors and kept running into the same problems:1) Poor battery life2) Poor range3) Poor image qualityWe didn't want a wifi camera to use with our phones because we wanted a dedicated monitor without having to log in. This one is perfect. None of those 3 problems happened. The battery is great. The range is really good even through concrete walls. The biggest problem we had with others is that they all use 2.4GHz which interferes with our home 2.4 Wifi. When we use our phones, there was always interference causing the monitor to lose signal and beep. That rarely happens with this one. Image is good, not great. But we aren't watching HD TV on this thing, just looking to make sure baby is ok and sleeping!

Very good rig. Been using this every night for 10 months now. The battery is very good. I haven’t done a specific test but if you leave it in video mode all the time it would probably last 8+ hours. The video quality is average-good. Better than at least 2 other brands we’ve seen first hand. The sound sensitivity settings work fine. The music feature is good but doesn’t work for our child. The mic for the parents to speak to the child is poor. But from what I can tell none are very good. Sounds like an angry robot in the room. The cord for the camera is nice and long. The monitor itself is a good shape and easy to hook onto your belt or waistband. I really like the room temperature feature. The range is excellent. I can only compare it to one other monitor and this one destroys it in the range category. Our house is 2,500sqft and there’s no chance of losing signal anywhere including basement. The degrees of movement of the camera are limited but with our room setup it works great. Overall very pleased with our purchase.

This baby monitor is worth every single penny. We originally purchased a Motorola and the feedback was terrible. We lost months of sleep due to that garbage monitor making weird noises. This Philips Avent is silent when the baby is stirring and selectively let’s you know when the baby is actually waking or is awake. Lastly the battery life is great! Both the camera and monitor easily plug into power banks if you are out camping and need a top up. Our Motorola wouldn’t even last half an hour... Buy this Avent you will not be disappointed. The last thing you need is loosing extra sleep because you cheaped out on a monitor. How much do you value your health and relationship with your spouse?
