I have two other chain wear indicators, and they don't work nearly as well. One let my chain wear so badly, I had to replace the cassette because of it. I ended up shunning chain wear indicators in general, instead preferring a Vernier calliper for the job. That worked, but measuring this way takes a few minutes of concentrated effort, and a good manual calliper that has to be cradled and kept well, not at all the quick check ones does when cleaning the dirt off a bike. I noticed the bike techs at the local bike shop use these indicators and rely on them even for really expensive bikes, so I got one. Just like that I have my quick and easy check again, this time one my Vernier calliper agrees with.

Easy way to see chain wear if the end point slips into the chain linkage. Keep your chain clean and lubricated and it will last much longer. An overly oily chain attracts dust and forms a paste that wears out your chain faster and will cost you money to replace.
