A Stunning Turntable For The Price
Wow! The level of detail this turntable picks out of the record groove is absolutely amazing at this price point. It’s well made & well engineered. The fully manual operation has also been well designed to make it virtually effortless to use. I was reluctant to move from a semi or even fully automatic turntable to a manual operation, fearing I’d be put off playing records too often because of the inconvenience. I was wrong, this is a breeze to use & I can’t stop playing my records & being completely drawn into the music. It’s very detailed, rhythmic, fast & punchy sound is glorious to listen to. The only issue is the hardwired phono cable is about 12” too short for me. My amplifier has a phono input, but if it didn’t, I’d have bought the Planar One Plus as that has the excellent “Phono Mini A2D” phono pre amp built in for £65 extra.

Really impressive entry level deck
After 30 years absence from vinyl, I bought this Planar 1 deck along with a new Rega amp. Hooked up to my old Tannoy speakers, it sounds simply wonderful. I am so pleased with the results and can't believe how good vinyl sounds after years of digital streaming. The build quality is fine, if a little lightweight, but you can see they have invested in the tone-arm first and foremost, which has paid dividends. It really does sound much more expensive than it is. It's a pain to have to change the belt over for 33/45, but well worth the sacrifice. If I have one observation, it's that vinyl can be variable in quality and this deck is very good at exposing bad pressings. Get a good one and the sound quality is superb, but poor pressings can be flat and uninteresting. Not the decks fault at all, it can only work with what it has. Just read the reviews before buying an LP.UPDATE JAN 202320 months later and I the only change I have made is an upgrade to a Goldring E3 cartridge, which has solved a lot of the issues I had about poor quality pressings. It seems a lot of that was the standard fit Rega Carbon (actually an AT) struggling. The Goldring is leaps and bounds ahead with much better separation and dynamic range. Much more analogue in its presentation and worth the £95 investment.I still like the Planar 1. The arm is it’s best asset, but the build overall is so-so. The belt speed change is annoying me more now and I think in future I’d rather spend a bit more for an electronic speed change.

Brilliant Turntable
After a break of a mere 3 decades without a turntable, I finally found time and space to re-invest in my vinyl collection. I researched various offerings and bought this Riga Planar 1. Unless you're a gear-fetishizing audiophile, you won't need 'better' than this - a turntable doesn't add or subtract from sound in my view. It's simple to set up and a joy to use. Listening to vinyl offers a different type of detailed listening and i am so happy this is a great piece of kit and not overpriced.

Well made high quality turntable
I had my previous record player for a number of years, a discounted shop model, it did the job but I realised that several of my records were actually worth more than the player so it was time to upgrade. After a lot of research I decided to go for the Rega Planar 1. Not super expensive but very highly rated.Firstly the item arrived well packaged and was very simple to put together and setup. This was lucky as the instructions are quite basic, but no matter, it's all straightforward and setting the balance was just a case of sliding the weight onto the arm. I've been using it for a couple of months now and no further adjustment has been necessary.Onto the sound quality: I noticed a big difference from my previous entry level model. Bassier, more detailed, less distortion and overall a more enjoyable experience. I don't often play it very loud as the speakers are positioned near my head when I'm sat at my desk but it performs well at low volumes and seems to do well at higher volumes aswell.Usability: You'll have read about the belt adjustment to play 45s - I haven't done this yet as will just play them on my old deck. There is a switch under the front left of the player to start the motor. Now it's important to note that this deck does not stop automatically (if that's something you're used to). You need to lift the arm and return it to the rest and flick the switch to stop the player. This is OK but after some research some people panic about wearing out the motor by constantly switching it on and off to change sides or records. Like many others I just leave it going and take the record off while it's revolving. This is easy to do and makes sense.Functionality: It has a lever which allows you to drop the arm and this is my one reservation about this deck - it sometimes seems a little stiff (the part that holds up the arm) and a couple of times hasn't dropped the arm all the way down. This is probably because the idea is that it drops it gently but can be a bit annoying if you have to encourage it! Probably nothing a drop of oil wouldn't fix but there it is.Regarding how well it plays records - touch wood I haven't had one skip yet (even ones that used to on my old player) so that's a big improvement and is definitely down to the fact that it's a much more solid, well balanced unit. Finally note, it doesn't have a preamp built in so you need to plug it into a proper amplifier - not just speakers. If you think any of the above points are negative don't be put off - I think these are down to the fact that it's a higher quality player and you sacrifice some convenience you get with cheaper players, for the far superior sound quality. For me it's a very worthy sacrifice and I would highly recommend this high quality turntable!

Perfect Turntable
Fantastic turntable - at that point where it exceeds all the cheaper ones but is way cheaper than some of the ridiculously expensive tables. Looks great - easy to set up and the quality of the sound is brilliant. Two things you need to plug either a pre amp or have an amp with a preamp - so that you get the richness of the sound. Also no Bluetooth or connection - you’ll need to do that separately.Delivery was quick and arrived well boxed and protected so to avoid mishaps on the way.So loving the sound - really worthwhile investment for me

Pre Amp needed
Great quality but don't forget it needs a pre amp , wasn't aware of this and had to purchase one as the sound isn't loud enough without one. Purchased micro pp400 phono from Behringer as the supplier recommended it - works great for around £17

Wunderbar!
