Review of the Hand Book of Rigging, fifth edition.
This book is a reference document on the subject of rigging in its broadest sense. It gives an introduction into the Engineering principles behind lifting, slinging & the movement of heavy objects in general.I purchased the book for information on Derricks & whilst it doesn't specifically deal with these in sufficient detail for design purposes, it does give an oversight & makes detailed reference to other documents that proved helpfull. It gives good information across a wide spectrum of subjects in the civils arena, from Scaffolding through to Industry codes & HSE & E. In this respect it could be used as material for training purposes & its use would indeed prevent accidents amongst perhaps less qualified personnel. (Subject to the usual copyright etc etc!)In general an outstanding reference book for any engineer who deals with lifting & slinging, either directly in the field or at the design stage. For me its up there alongside Machineries Handbook as a must have read.RegardsR
