OTTERBOX Defender Series Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 - Frustration FRĒe Packaging - Black

I've had Otter Boxes for both my Galaxy S4 and S7. For someone who's a professional, I don't need a case with bling, camouflage, or decoration of any sort, just dependable protection.I got the case for my S4 after I dropped it face-down on the concrete, shattering the entire screen in the process. I was new to the world of smartphones at the time and didn't realize how vulnerable they were to breakage. I had to take it to a "repair shop," which did a dismal job of repairing it, with the home button quitting on me and liquid sealer seeping out everywhere, and this is AFTER I took it back and complained.Lesson learned. I bought an OtterBox the next day. The phone got dropped innumerable times afterward and never broke any further. People in my family have bought cheaper knockoff versions, and the quality just isn't the same. In general, they're thinner, have less cushion, and the plastic is cheaper.I recently got an S7. I refused to even take it out of the box until my new OtterBox arrived. Like the last one, it fit like a glove over the phone.On both models, the only drawback I can think of is the clip that goes with the case. I've found, personally, that if it rides on your belt all day, the clip gets snagged on everything and after a while they break, but I've gotten used to carrying it in my pocket, and it's probably more safe/secure there anyway. If I could do partial stars, I think I'd be around 4 1/2 because of that.If you're looking, though, for reliable, dependable protection for your phone without a bunch of extras and you don't care much for a "pretty" case, this is an excellent choice. Personally, I like the sleek, black design.

This case exceeded expectations. I was a little concerned about buying the Galaxy S4 because of some user comments about the phone which suggested that it may be overly fragile. When I read the reviews about the OtterBox, my reservations about purchasing the phone were not completely assuaged, because the Otterbox user reviews tended to be somewhat tentative as to the case's ability to adequately protect the Galaxy S4, particularly its screen. Despite these reservations, I decided to purchase the phone and the Otterbox case made for it. After several months of use, I can report complete satisfaction with the case and with its protective capabilities. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend this particular case for this phone.Three objections contained in other user reviews were: (1) Lack of sensitivity of the touch screen because of the protective screen saver, (2) Difficultly in hearing the phone ring because of case muffling, and (3) General clunkiness of the phone in terms of look and feel when using the phone in more formal non-work situations. In regard to objections (1) and (2), I have not experienced either problem. As a matter of fact the Galaxy S4 works even if the screen is not touched. Just hovering one's finger over the screen will cause the phone to make an entry. In regard to objection (3), I guess "gustibus non est disputandum" should be the relevant guidance. I selected a black cover, and regularly use it to no shame with suits in various social situations. It easily slips into my pocket and I have not found it to be "clunky." As a matter of fact, the phone with the case has a slimmer profile than my previous phone. To conclude, I like the case very much, and I think most people would find it very functional for this phone.

I specifically researched getting the best protection for my phone as I did not want to purchase the extra $10/mth insurance (which also had a $150 deductible!) in case the phone got damaged.My advice is to watch the youtube video which shows how to attach it. I probably would have broken the inner shell if I hadn't watched the video. You have to take your time and be careful putting it on and taking it off. The inner plastic shell is especially difficult to take off. (I was taking it off to insert a sd card). After breaking several fingernails, I used a flat head screw driver (again, very carefully) which did the trick.The rubber part goes on snugly and doesn't seem like it would stretch much if you had a reason to take it off a lot.I don't use the outer portion with the belt clip so can't really comment on that.I also purchased a tempered glass screen cover which fits fine underneath the otterbox.It's definitely heavy duty protection. I don't fear damage even if i dropped it.

Otterbox has stood by my side for years keeping my phones safe. Just the sound of the name otterbox makes me feel confident in their products. I was not let down by this defender case for the Galexy S4.I purhcased this case for my father who works outdoors and has broken many phones due to falls, drops, forgetfulness and so forth. This box has been amazing for him in the fact that when he does drop his phone, it does not crack, break or malfunction. He has even dropped this phone in case in concrete briefly for it to come out just fine.The price as always is steep, but well worth it for the protection it offers. Putting the case on and taking it off is very difficult, but not something that most people do on a daily basis so it may not bother you at all with normal usage.The phone can sit on the dash of the truck easily without sliding all around due to the excellent grip that is on it, which also makes it less likely to be dropped from your hands.I would highly recommend this case to anyone who is in need of a very sturdy case and doesn't mind the expensive price. You definitely get what you pay for with this product.
