How to Successfully Trade in a Universe in Which Change is a Constant
Daryl Guppy takes his audience for a grand tour of the universe in which today's traders operate. Guppy first deals with individual trading psychology before jumping into the analysis of his trading methodology and the general/specialized trading techniques on which his methodology rests.Trading psychology is of paramount importance, especially when a trade does not turn out as expected. Guppy reminds traders that they should never underestimate their own capacity for self-sabotage, notwithstanding all the preparation they put originally in a trade.Guppy demonstrates convincingly through the technical analysis of his trading methodology that the market is founded on fundamentals, but price behavior and trending behavior are primarily influenced by the emotions and behavior of market participants. Whoever has any doubts about this reality of contemporary trading is invited to go straight to chapter 32 in which Guppy examines the (diverging) stock performance of Chinese companies that are parallel listed and traded both in mainland China and outside of China.Guppy concludes from his tour d'horizon of modern trading that success rests on four pillars:1. Constant planning for failure regardless of the success that one currently enjoys;2. Capacity and willingness to ruthlessly change one's mind to avoid getting stuck with a losing position;3. Recognition of operating in an environment that one does not control;4. Preparation is everything. As a side note, Guppy could develop a Q&A section after a few chapters so that readers can test their understanding of the material at hand. Alexander Elder uses judiciously this didactic methodology in his newest book "The New Sell & Sell Short."

Good read
Good read into trader / crowd psychology - pushes his other products a tad. Some good ideas on risk management as well.

A Trader's must read.
Preface is probably most important section. I realized long ago that Technical Analysis measures human phycology, price and volume are just quantitative expressions of that phycology. Follow the reading of this book with an on-line phycology course... the path to success.

The author knows what's the trading in detail. As an experienced trader, I have made many mistakes in the beginning and this book describes these mishaps so I concur this book with high degree.

Good solid TA book.
I also read Trend Trading. Guppy writes entertaining books with easy to use information on TA. Very practical. Just have to stick with it until you get a trending market.

Strict but easy to understand
I always loved watching Guppy on CNBC. His technical analysis tools and opinions on risk management are well defined and easy to understand. The book itself is a bit dry and exhaustive. I am not sure I can use it for myself, but it is easy to follow along. It's probably better for people who seek medium to long term investments than for day traders. Just my 2 Cents. The price is fair and there is a lot of value to be found.
