Q: Are you able to replace the batteries when needed? Some reviews say you can't.

Yes you can. There's a little notch on the side. Open it with a flat head screwdriver it a penny (I used a penny). Inside are 3 button batteries. Size: LR44

I have not tried but the 90 power may have enough

Place the unit (white side down) on a flat surface (tabletop is fine) rotate the device and notice that one side has a notch in it. Carefully, place a knife blade into the notch and pry the black part up and away from the white part. Once the two are separated, remove the black part and flip the unit over so that the white part is on top and lift it off. Notice that there is a small plastic piece now exposed, lift it off and there are the batteries (the plastic piece is the switch). The unit takes 3 LR44 pill batteries, two with the lettering facing up, the 3rd one with the lettering down. After installing new batteries, place the plastic piece back on top of them and lay the white cover on top. Flip the unit so the white is on the bottom, then snap the black part back in and you are finished!
