I don't understand. the instructions say only water should be used in the braava jet 240. why would this be necessary and how would it be used?

The Braava Jet 240 was initially designed to use plain water in conjunction with disposable pads that have an embedded water activated cleaning agent. This new solution was designed for the new Braava m6, but was also made to be compatible with the sensitive internal parts of the Braava 240. The Braava Jet 240 has optional washable pads that do not have an embedded cleaning agent, the new Braava Jet Hard Floor Cleaning Solution would be an ideal combination to use with the washable pads to get the best performance.

I know that it’s not of etiquette to ask this question here but is there a cheeper alternative 😅?

I have used Bona hardwood floor cleaner on our oak floors with the 240. A few drops of the concentrate in the tank or 3 sprays of the ready to use formula in the tank work great.

will this work with first generation braava robots?

can anyone recommend a generic substitute?

Going off-brand voids the warranty. The iRobot brand is mixed 2 Oz cleaning fluid to 13 oz water. So the 16 Oz bottle yields 120 Oz. So it's not quite as expensive as it looks at first

Clean floors with minimal effort.

Works great and keeps the floor clean. The water to soap ratio is important to follow to avoid streaks on tiles. It does not cause any clogs with the iRobot. The iRobot filter needs to be thoroughly cleaned or the dirt will cling and prevent the unit from spraying properly. This is not because of this soap.
