This Pan is Fantastic
I have tons of Lodge cast iron. I live in Tennessee where most of the Lodge products are made so I have a lot of access to it including outlets. The Lodge brand provides quality cast iron. Even with all my cast, I had never tried the Lodge Jumbo Chef's Platter. I had seen it in one of the outlets and didn't really understand what it would be used for and thought from the name that it would just be for serving purposes - a platter. It wasn't until I saw it on Amazon and read the reviews that I realized it was to be used like a cookie sheet. I had to order one immediately, as a matter of fact, I ordered two. This thing is absolutely fabulous. I have to say that I have used it even more than I thought I would. If you could only get a few pieces of cast, I suggest you get a skillet, a Dutch oven and this chef's platter. I have used it for so many things. I've used it like a cookie sheet and made cookies, fries and such on it. I have used it on the grill for grilling veggies and things. I use it almost every morning and bake breakfast instead of frying it. I put sausage, eggs and toppings like sour cream, salsa and cheese and bake it to perfection. So much easier than frying and all the flavors come out when you bake them together. If you preheat your oven with the pan in it and get the pan real hot then place your meat on the pan, it sears the meat like grilling inside and it stays juicy on the inside and crisp on the outside. I have been doing my country style ribs like that instead of baking them in a glass dish. When I use to bake them in glass, they would lose a lot of liquid and sit in that liquid and would have a completely different texture than when they are grilled and the juices drip away. With cast, when it is heated prior to placing the meat on it, you get a good sear, much better results for indoor cooking. I use mine on the grill, in the stove, and on the stovetop. ( I have a gas oven and stove top burners.) Again, this pan is fantastic and so much better than using those cheap tin or aluminum baking pans. This pan will last from now on and it much healthier to use too. Clean up is easy, just scrape with a stiff brush or pan scraper and hot water then coat with some cooking oil. You also can't beat Amazon's prices on Lodge, sometimes even cheaper than Lodge's outlet stores. (Picture is bacon frying on the Chef's platter on a gas stovetop.)

looking forward to YEARS of use!!
Great pan!! I got this one and the smaller one. This one is a tad heavy but manageable. The pans are beautiful and versatile and exactly what I was looking for. This is a perfect replacement for the stainless steel sheet pans I've been using which have a warping issue when I use one this size. The stainless pans don't wash up well either so I use foil to keep the clean up easier which I won't have to use on the cast iron. This all started for me when I got a couple of the cast iron pie pans that are beautiful and make my pies look amazing. I'm so glad that Lodge is making smaller items that I can use for the oven, stove top, smoker and BBQ. What a great addition to my cookware!!

These are amazing to use as cookie sheets as well as for cooking veggies out on a gas grill. Can't beat Lodge cast iron! I have them and bought these to give as gifts

Nice solid pan
Bought this for cooking tortillas. I've used it a few times now. It takes heat we'll. I use it at around 450 degrees. Heats evenly and cleans up well

a Nice Platter, but a Great Griddle
We are using the Lodge Chef's Platter with a wood burning cookstove. We were actually looking for a griddle -- one with a reasonable price, a large cooking area, a raised lip to contain messes, and raised handle(s) so we can pick the heavy iron up off the hot steel cooktop without barbequing our fingers. Similar to what you might want for use with an outdoor grill. This item is not marketed as a griddle, but the side handles are adequately raised for our purposes (unlike the reversible griddle/grills designed for conventional stoves), and it would give us more cooking area than the P12SG3 12" square griddle (but the handles on that one are swell!). We also looked at aluminum griddles - less expensive (usually), but they always seem to have a nonstick coating, which is like signing up to buy a new one in three years. So, we decided to give this "Platter" a try. Turned out to be an excellent choice. In cooking, it performs just like you'd expect a great slab of cast iron to perform, and it looks great on the table as well. Searing, frying, baking, serving, and warming - it excels all around. We took the advice of some of the other reviewers and re-seasoned it through several cycles on top of the stove before first use. This made cleanup a breeze - scrape it off, oil it up, and leave it on the warm stove. Makes the heavy weight of the item less of a bother than expected, since we're not hauling it around like the rest of the dirty dishes. Overall we are very pleased with the looks and performance of this griddle, er, platter.

Factory Seasoning Not Bad; Easy to Use and Clean
Fits our flat-top gas burners great, and also works in the oven. The seasoning that is factory-baked it fine enough to start out, but you'll want to clean it before use. Just for fun I went ahead and tested the factory finish by searing Dover Dole (thin, delicate fish) in some olive oil. Yeah, that didn't work. So I did my normal seasoning (natural lard; 475 degrees for an hour; slow cool down) and after one iteration it is already significantly better. Duck breasts and some pork all slide around now. From here on out it's just using it as much as possible to get it up to snuff. Baptism by steak is next - I would not put bacon on this because the low sides would make it a bit messy. Using it often won't be hard. Already this is a go-to cooking instrument. A real plus is the low sides that let you reach in with utensils, and overall this is just easier to clean in our sink (hot water, some salt to scour anything that sticks). Will be getting another.

Smash Burger
Why make a mess inside? Place this sucker on your gas grill. As a bonus find yourself a cast iron burger smasher. Let a ground beef ball cook for a minute or two, smash away! Cook, flip and cheese up if you wish. two more minutes and nosh away.

Great
Absolutely fantastic price for something so versatile. Managed to survive the shipping from Canada to the UK in just a box, banging around inside the whole way I'd imagine. So yeah packaging is poor but the product is excellent

Amazing
I love this! I've been using cast iron pots for years but had to keep using the cheap metal cookie sheets, until now. It's not very heavy so it's easy to use. It cooks very well but I do have to bake a little longer because it takes more time for the cast iron to heat up. I use this to make cookies, crackers, pizza, potatoes, and more. I washed this really well before using and seasoned it myself. Cleaning it is very easy now.

Good value Lodge cast iron
I bought this large cast iron griddle for over $40 special price. I have been using my small Lodge griddle in my benchtop oven for a few years for baking frozen foods. I didn't have to turn over the foods as the cast iron was very hot especially after preheating. I use the large griddle to make pork jerky in my preheated built in fan forced oven. The taste is much better than using a normal tray as this cast iron is super hot and less juice come out.
