The Twilight Saga White Collection

Contrary to appearances, The Twilight Saga is not bloated with bloody action sequences. And of course that does not mean it must be boring. The action sequences that exist are well done and are not overdone. My approach to The Twilight Saga was similar to my approach to the Harry Potter books. They both seemed suitable only for teenagers. Stephenie Meyer's first book in the series, Twilight, also seemed too romantic for my male tastes, and I was afraid it would be a dish of pulp fiction smeared with vampire sleaze. But she wrote sequels, they continued to be published, and they continued to be bestsellers. So I read some reviews. The reviews gave me another reason to avoid the books: They were boring. I mean, that is what a few reviews said. Things like this: "This is not horror. Why should I care what Bella [the main character] does in class? I survived four years of boredom in my own high school. Am I supposed to pay the author to torture me with more of the same?" I refused to buy into the series. But when the first movie came out, I thought moviemakers might edit the boring parts. I saw the movie and was pleased. Likewise for the second movie. Thanks to the movies, I read more book reviews, and I noticed that the series of books had ended. That was good. In a series that does not end, the books have a habit of becoming cookie-cutter copies. Read one and you have read them all. Knowing that The Twilight Saga had an ending and seeing that amazon.com offered a good deal on a boxed set, I took a chance. (The third movie came out before I read the books, but I have postponed seeing it, not wanting to spoil my reading more than it may already have been spoiled.) Having just completed my reading of the four novels, I have reached a conclusion regarding the allegation that these books are only for teenagers. The allegation is baloney. The sole indication I found that the books are only for teenagers is the absence of vulgar language. For example, I am sure that if Meyer's characters were realistic, they would use the common F-word instead of using Meyer's "freaking." But that is not her fault. If she used the F-word, high school libraries might not shelve her books, or at least they might restrict them to eighteen-year olds. Many teenagers would be denied easy access to a story that is obviously suitable for them, if not suitable only for them. Is the story too romantic? I do I hold true to the conviction that a human being cannot love a human being. It is impossible. Also I maintain that marriage is a social invention, not a natural one. Therefore I disapproved of Bella's obsession with love, and I was wary of her mate Edward's insistence on marriage. Nevertheless these are secondary complaints. Since I do not deny males and females the freedom to cohabit, the issues of love and marriage become academic. If Bella and Edward want to live together, that is okay. (As long as they are not denied the freedom to separate.) Regarding these books having too much bloody sleaze, I think not. The blood and gore is minimal, appropriate for the telling of the story. Regarding the alleged boredom, I feel that "boredom" is too harsh. I do think the content includes much that is prosaic. Enough that I would categorize the books as romance, as well as horror. Pages are filled with domestic life, high school scenes, small talk, a beach party, lovemaking, and teenage dating. But I suppose this is standard material for romance novels, and many readers welcome it. I for one tolerated it, and I was rewarded when I got to uplifting sequences of plot development and denouement. In other words, the prosaic sequences were necessary for the development of the story. NOTE: I do not regret having seen the first two movies. Indeed if they encourage you to read the books, I recommend seeing them. Regarding the two movies, I remember them as being more violent than the books. Also, the appearances of the movie characters only hint at the aesthetic perfection of the characters in the books.

I simply cannot say enough about these books. I got introduced to the "Twilight" series very late in the game--it was just this past November as "Breaking Dawn part 2" was coming out in theaters. I was one of those people that had thought they were too old, I'm 42, for a teen vampire romance etc. However, after I happened to see Robert Pattinson in "Water for Elephants" I decided I had to give "Twilight" a try. Boy, was I proven wrong, age has absolutely nothing to do with it, not when the story is this good! So, after seeing the first movie (and making my husband watch it with me again the next day--he's now a fan too), we rushed out and bought the rest of the DVDs and got caught up. We have seen "Breaking Dawn part 2" twice now as well. That same week I also ordered this book set. And then, when it came, I read the entire set TWICE in less than a month. I kid you not, folks, and we are talking about over 2500 pages in all! It may be an old saying but I literally could not put them down. As my husband can tell you, when I was reading there was no interrupting me! Stephenie Meyers is a fantastic writer, one of the best I've read in a very long time. And I read a lot. The last time I was even close to being this absorbed in a series was when I read the "Harry Potter" books. In the "Twilight" series, Meyers reveals an incredible talent for bringing unique characters to life in a way that draws you completely into the world she sees in her mind, she creates a new, vibrant vampire--and wherewolf--mythology in a world that seems so real it's as if you could step right into it without any hesitation (just as Bella does). Bella is a 17-year-old high school girl in love with forever-17-year-old vampire Edward, and their love story becomes the stuff of legend set in reality. Later, when it grows into a love triangle with newly-transformed wherewolf Jacob, reality takes on a whole new meaning. And amid love and joy Bella must also face death, loss and pain before she can make the final choice for her future. There really isn't one sentence or paragraph that can truly capture the entire tale and do it justice because Meyers' writing is so visceral, she makes you experience everything so deeply along with her characters as they journey through her masterful storytelling. Everything feels fully three-dimensional, from the intensly detailed inner thought processes of the main characters to the dramatic and often comical dialogue between them, from the richly described environments in which they live to the sometimes difficult and distant places they find themselves going to, Meyers never takes any short cuts with her writing. From what quite literally began as a happy dream one night, she has created an entire world that I will eagerly return to again and again. I am also extremely impressed that Meyers made sure to keep a strong grip on her material when the movies were being made, making sure that they stayed as true to the original books as humanly possible.Yes, the books contain more than the movies for which I am grateful, but they are really close and that is miraculous for all of the Twi-hard book fans out there! I could probably go on for pages here so I will wrap this up by saying that no matter your age or gender you will find so much in these books that transcends typical fantasy stories that I strongly urge everyone to take a chance and jump into the "Twilight" Universe!!!

The books came in a lot faster than I expected them too, they arrived in great quality, in perfect condition as well. Collection box had no issues or damage to it, I loved it.

I loved the movies, however, I wasn't interested in merely "reading the movies" again. There was no need to worry. As it turned out, many of the films scenes were summations….compilations…. of several scenes from the books, therefore, you get quite a bit of new content in the books. Also, the books do a wonderful job of fleshing out and clarifying a few times that confused me from the movies. By way of a small example of this, Bella acted so mortified in the film at her own wedding. When you add the fact that she had the gory nightmare the night before, it left me wondering if she was unsure of marrying Edward? Did she have fears of marrying into the vampire life? Was she having regrets regarding Jake? In the book, her feelings are crystal clear. She merely despised being the center of attention, the spectacle of a wedding, the fear of her clumsiness, etc. but there was NO hesitation in marrying Edward. All such confusions were clarified, and beautifully so and I found that very satisfying. The relationships are explored more deeply than time allows for in a film and so I found myself more emotional than I ever imagined, shedding a tear many times throughout the series. Some scenes were so beautiful, I couldn't understand why they were left from the movie or played more faithfully to the scene in the book (like some scenes were watered down). For example, the extent of her love for Jake and her pain in leaving him after the fight with the newborns that left him many broken bones, was played out so beautifully in the book. I wish they had been truer to the book on that one for sure. Reading this series was so satisfying that I found it quickly became the best part of my day. I looked forward to when I could become engrossed in this lovely fantasyland get-away. I'm 52 years old and do not ever remember crying just because I read the words ….."The End".

Lovely set. The boxed collection I received is just over 8 x 8 inches. This was the sizing I was hoping for, but wasn't sure I would receive. From previous reviews and photos the collection seemed to be two different sizes in the paper format. The box case was sealed in plastic, but the four corners of box facing out did have small white spots where the red rubbed away from pressure. I don't mind this, on a shelf it still looks good. And the box is made of paper so a little wear in transit is to be expected. Yes the fit is tight but that's what I want. Tip the case forward with the books you don't want to come out covered on each side (with your hands) and lightly shake the case. The book you want will shimmy forward and you can pull it out. Based on a prior review I double checked that Breaking Dawn was not missing pages or out of sequence. It wasn't but I noticed that my page count was much lower- prev reviewer went into 700+ pages for BD while mine ends on page 640. So I must have a larger sized page. I received my set today so, I haven't read thru each book for any errors yet. It looks wonderful. I already own the books on Kindle and have read them multiple times, but now I want to physically hold them in my hand. These feel perfect for me. Just the right size and weight. I prefer paper to hardcover. BD is my favorite book so I NEEDED that one to be complete. The ending pages are what I expected so- perfect! I'm happy to add this set to my collection of all the digital movies, the decorative dvd set, and the kindle set. I feel like I have it all now. This set was worth my purchase price of $45. I missed a small coupon by a day but I don't care. This set does include Midnight Sun and The short second life of bree tanner. I HIGHLY recommend.

After years of my daughter nagging me to read these, I finally gave in. From the first page I was hooked, and I couldn’t put it down. I devoured the entire series in a month. WOW! Just….wow.

I bought this set for my book-loving cousin since she had the Twilight series on her wishlist, and she was so excited to read them and add them to her collection! The white covers are absolutely beautiful and give the books a clean, collector's look. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish they came in hardcover—I think they'd last longer that way. But the white collection was hard to find, so I was really happy to come across it on Amazon. Overall, it was a great find at a reasonable price and made a perfect gift!

the cover designs are really pretty - I 100% recommend to buy them cause the story is great but I think a lot of you know this since nearly everyone saw the films ( which are also really good) they are really good deco - like I said the covers are great and make every bookshelf look better

Ho voluto leggere la saga di Twilight perché in pochi anni questi libri sono diventati, nel loro genere, un classico della letteratura per teenagers anche se, a quanto pare, piacciono molto anche agli adulti; e i miei nipotini tra qualche tempo potrebbero essere interessati anche loro, così ho voluto cercare di saperne di più. La mia valutazione personale, anche se non si tratta del mio genere preferito, è che si tratti di una saga abbastanza avvincente, in cui è soprattutto ben delineata la psicologia dei personaggi; è questo il pregio maggiore, e la vera bravura dell'autrice secondo me, mentre l'intreccio della storia invece è abbastanza lineare. A ben vedere, infatti, se si resta nel campo della letteratura fantasy, vampiri e mannari si trovano in mille altre storie e romanzi, un esempio per tutti la saga di Harry Potter, e qui, in confronto a Twilight, trovo molto più elaborata la definizione degli intrecci e della storie, la varietà e il numero dei personaggi e la capacità dell'autrice di inventare, in queste storie, variegate figure magiche, poteri e incantesimi, linguaggi specifici da attribuire ad ognuno, e con una perfetta plausibilità degli intrecci e delle conseguenze che ogni potere e ogni incantesimo producono sullo svolgersi delle vicende relative a ogni personaggio. Comunque devo dire, tornando alla saga di Twilight, che mi è piaciuta molto, ma sono soprattutto soddisfatta di averla potuta acquistare, nell'edizione inglese, a un prezzo ultra-concorrenziale su Amazon; inoltre, pur trattandosi di un'edizione economica con la copertina flessibile, ho ricevuto i libri nuovi, ancora chiusi nel cellophane, e caratterizzati da grande accuratezza di editing e stampa, senza nemmeno un refuso. E per finire, il servizio di spedizione di Amazon è stato rapido e affidabile come sempre, per cui in considerazione di tutto mi ritengo pienamente soddisfatta, e il mio voto, ancora una volta, è il massimo.
