The Doctor's Diet: Dr. Travis Stork's STAT Program to Help You Lose Weight & Restore Health [Stork MD, Travis] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Doctor's Diet: Dr. Travis Stork's STAT Program to Help You Lose Weight & Restore Health Review: Excellent guide for health and weight loss! - This book brings together all the information that most people will ever need on nutrition, healthful eating and weight loss. There are three progressive stages for losing weight, complete with food lists and sample menus. Dr. Stork writes in a way that both provides needed information for weight loss and shows compassion and understanding towards those who are going through this process. He points the reader towards a healthful everyday eating plan, but there are no "forbidden" foods. On the final phase of the program, an occasional alcohol-based beverage is permitted, as well as a daily square of dark chocolate. He also recognizes that occasional treats such as ice cream can have a place in a healthy diet if not used to excess.I have been using this book, along with a support group of several friends. We have lost some weight, and find it easy to follow and enjoyable. The one down side is that it can get slightly boring, but we are finding ways to overcome this problem. Review: Awesome Program! Awesome book! - I have already written one review a while back but I am so passionate about this 'diet' I am writing again. I started the program on 2/20/14 and am down 43 pounds and 3 away from my goal. This has been the easiest program I've followed and I've dieted pretty much my whole life. (Life member Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, South Beach etc. ) This program is very easy to follow, healthy and satisfying. Recipes in the back of book are very tasty though I do tweak some with extra herbs, spices, extra veggies. You can follow his menus or do your own with very simple ingredients. fruit veggies protein nuts etc. I have been very satisfied while following the program. It has moved me away from a no fat mentality ( always hungry diet) to healthy fats including nuts, guacomole, nut butters. There are snacks as well. 1 or 2 depending on week. I can't say enough good things about this program. I thought not being able to lose weight was because I was getting older. Not true! It was the foods I was using. You do give up sugar and artificial sweeteners but the health benefits and how you will feel make up for it! I use 1 tsp of honey a day which is allowed. Or light agave syrup or maple syrup (1 full cup low fat plain Greek Yogurt (protein), honey, nuts (fat), fruit are one example of the flexibility of a snack) I've read a few of the negative reviews here. You do not have to follow his menus- they are there for convenience, variety and examples. It's extremely flexible. Dr. Stork gives a food prescription for each meal. ie breakfast protein and fruit and a list to choose from for each. Could not be simpler. Breakfast can be as easy as an egg and fruit and a flexible grain ie slice of toast to one of his omelets, high protein smoothies, or cup of cereal with milk and fruit. I made a log on my computer and print the phase (stat or restore) out every two weeks so I can keep a journal of what I eat, my weight, exercise etc.- my progress. If you follow this program the weight WILL come off. I have never been more excited about a weight loss/get healthy program. The book is excellent to read- good, interesting, very easy and will give you good reasons to get started. Just preordered his new cookbook coming out in October! Can NOT wait. Get started today! You won't be sorry! ( a VERY happy, healthy, thin customer!)

Medicine in a book
I personally don't need to lose weight and I like exercising(working out) so I got this book for my mom. However, I decided to do the STAT plan with her(she wanted to lose weight) and it helps having someone do this plan with you. I would highly recommend having a buddy who will participate in this diet with you. The struggle was real! The book starts with the STAT plan which is about a 2 week strict food diet. It's kind of a crash diet because a crash diet is "-a weight-loss diet undertaken with the aim of achieving very rapid results." which it does. It's also not a crash diet because after 2 weeks you go into the RESTORE portion of the food diet and then you go to the MAINTAIN portion of the food diet. You go back and forth between the 3 stages until you get your desired results. Also the book has recipes(which I found very useful), facts about certain foods(ie sugar, milk etc) and unbiased advice on nutrition. If you trying to lose weight you do not need someone trying to make you feel bad about the type of food you prefer; Travis Stork doesn't do that. After two weeks I lost about 5-8 pounds but I exercised(20 min high intensity cardio 2-3 times a week with a 5 min run 2 times week), slept well and I'm a habitual walker[meaning: I rarely drive and I don't have muscle tee bodyguards to carry me around]. I saw a vast improvement with my memory and thanks to this book I'm pretty sure my memory problems have to do with the amount of bread I consume. Even, though Dr. Stork doesn't require no bread during the STAT portion I decided that I was going to omit bread completely. My mom lost about 2-3 pounds which is probably a bit more accurate in terms of expectations of weight loss. She also worked out maybe once or twice a week and still ate bread. Sadly, I did not stick with the plan after the STAT portion and neither did my mom. However, we both adopted quite a few eating habits from this book hence the 4 star review so even though I tried it was hard to go back to eating poorly; your taste buds will change. If you're thinking about purchasing it check it out from your local library first.

Conflicted in the rating to give
I'm conflicted what rating to give the book. The book and the content were very helpful, BUT when I tried to lend it to a friend so that she could get the concept of the diet I was unable to lend it due to the publisher restrictions. I personally have both the kindle edition and the hard back book. I'm sure my friend would have purchased one or the other for herself but wanted to look through my kindle version first to decide for herself if she wanted the kindle or paper version. As I first purchased the kindle version and found it to difficult to flip back and forth for things I wanted to reference, and I really didn't want my electronic device in the kitchen while trying to cook the recipes in the book. So I bought the paper version, thus trying to help her out so she didn't waste money on both versions like I did. (I only needed one version)

It make sense and I'm loosing weight
I have been trying different diets unsuccessfully for years - finally one that makes sense and works! I went from being a carb-o-holic (all those Christmas cookies and candy!) to eating mostly vegetables in a very short time (I started the plan mid January). I feel full, satisfied, and have more energy with NO sugar cravings!! For someone who is not a fan of vegetables I would have never believed it was possible to enjoy them. Now veggies is not the only thing you eat on this plan, it was just the most significant change for me. I also enjoy nuts, fruits, smoothies, eggs, meats, shrimp, and more. I have followed the easy to use plan laid out in Travis's book and low and behold I enjoy my meals and the weight has been melting off at about a pound a day on the STAT plan. I'm eating simply (I'm single) so I'm not really cooking fancy meals, but the plan is very easy to follow and leaves you in charge of what you actually eat. The book gives you portion sizes and food choices, you mix and match them as you like for each meal. I wish I'd bought the actual book rather than the kindle version, as I can't figure how to "flip through the pages" in the kindle like you would an actual book. I am so glad I purchased this book. It has helped me to change the foods I eat to healthier foods, and given me specific easy to follow guidelines for each meal (I think this is where other diet plans fell short), made my grocery shopping simpler (no processed foods) and I am finally loosing the weight!!!! Thank You Dr Travis & Dr Phil for pointing me toward this book.I believe I have made a change for life.

From a Nurses Standpoint
Glad a medical professional has put out a book for chronic dieters so to speak in regards to how to change your lifestyle and encorporate healthy eating rather than fad diets. Too many people buy the latest trends and think they will lose weight quick and easy. Then their old habits take hold and they gain the weight back tri-fold. This book helps you learn in an easy way how to eat HEALTHY and stop the junk food rage that Americans have indulged themselves in. When you eat healthy and portion control, you will lose weight, make a change in your overall lifestyle eating habits, and obtain and maintain the weight and wellness you desire. And this is what that book does. I am a RN whom has been on the fast food diet and junk food binge for the past 5 years since I entered into the chaotic world of healthcare. You need food on the go working crazy hours and it is so easy to grab your comfort foods in order to cope with stress at work and save time. However, 5 years in and 30 pounds heavier I felt the affects extra weight and lack of physical activity outside of work has had on my body. Not only did I feel the effects of my unhealthy lifestyle, my lab work confirms my body's need to change. My triglycerides were triple the amount above a healthy range and my total cholesterol was at the higher end of "normal". I am 27 years old and recognize the harmful effects of bad cholesterol as I take care of cardiac patients and approx 96% of them have high lipids. With that being said, I read this book, started fully encorporating the advice I received from this book, and I feel amazing. I have lost weight without going to the gym, and now I have more energy to do the things I love. I am walking my dogs 3 times a day, hiking, and doing household chores without lagging on my days off. I am so thankful for this book as it has changed my lifestyle and if you fully encorporate this book into your everyday life, you will see and feel results as well. My fiancé is a type one diabetic and he has also learned from this book how to properly manage his diabetes following advice from his endocrinologist as well, and his lab results confirm it. I hope more people read this book rather than look for the quick fix, because you will only make yourself feel worse in the long term. Learn to live a healthy lifestyle, stay away from drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes as a habitual indulgence, and you too can find true happiness and how beautiful life can really be. So thank you doctor, for publishing a book without paying a lot of money to get the same advice from a dietician. You have changed my life and you are doing an amazing thing for people you will never know or see, which is why I assume you got into the healthcare field to begin with. I can only aspire to be as wonderful as you have been in my nursing career to make a true Difference in others lives like you have done for me. :) read the book. Well worth your eyes and time!!!

Scientific eating
I have a thirty year nursing career behind me. I am retired and have been spending too much time relaxing and not enough time exercising and paying attention to my diet. In five years I have gained 15 pounds. I am 59 andI do not plan on carrying these 15 pounds with me into my sixties! I spoke to my Doctor and began the plan. I first downloaded Doctors Diet onto my kindle . It is an easy read. Even though there are other scientific diets around, this plan most resembled my go to Weight Watchers eating lifestyle, however, The Doctor's Diet gives a lot more explanation on fat burning foods, carbs, fats, and protiens. The Doctor's Diet iis already working for me! Seven days (including Easter) and I have lost 5 pounds. I am walking thirty minutes a day as recocmended. I had already been walking anyway. The combination of the Doctors Diet along with my knowledge of Weight Watchers has me believing I will succeed in loosing my extra pounds and keeping them off even though I have been unsuccessfull in the past. You do not need a medical background to understand or follow The Doctors Diet. For me it has made it easier to connect why I am doing when I am doing it. in the past i believed the Weight Watcher's Plan has always been the most sensible life style eating plan out there. The Doctors Diet is now the most sensible diet for me! I understand it is not about loosing the first 5 pounds. This is for the long hall and meeting and maitaining my goal of loosing a total of 25 pounds. It won't be easy, but, the Doctors Diet will make it a lot more fun. Thank you Dr. Stork for crating a plan I will be living with for what I hope to be a long long time. SallyG
