I wish I would've found this Item Sooner "Ateco Decorating Comb & Icing Smoother" this is so simple and it works so Great, so many times I used to Grab my Fork to make some sort of Design when I Make a Cake, however, this Comb is so much better and it gives that Professional look of an Experienced Decorator, like I was doing it for...Years! Its so easy to Create Designs and so much Fun. It is Made of Aluminum and its not Flimsy at all, you can't even Bend it, ...well, don't try it. I wash it by hand so it will stay looking like New for a long time. Each side of the Comb has a different Design, even the smooth side is perfect just to Level the Frosting all around and Top of the Cake getting it ready for Decorating. I wanted to try it out and I already made a Cake and it Works Wonders, you can Create all kinds of Patterns and Designs, even works with Icing on Top of Sheet Cakes,...you know, I just Retired my Fork!...Thank You D.D.

This is a metal tool. The flat side is for smoothing the frosting of a cake, for example - to smooth buttercream in order to lay fondant over it. The other three sides will create a design in the frosting, instead of making it perfectly smooth. The instructions say to apply a thick layer of icing to the cake, then before the crust forms; dip the smoother/comb in hot water, shake off excess water, and draw it across the iced surface. Very simple and direct. If you hold it at an angle, you will remove less icing from the cake. Picture holding the tool completely perpendicular to the surface of the cake, with the patterned edge against the icing, then (keeping the entire edge against the icing) folding the hand that holds the tool in toward the cake. I'm not sure what the benefit is of making the tool rectangular instead of square, but the two long sides will easily cover a standard two-layer cake side. The small sides may need to be drawn against the icing twice, once at the top of the cake and once at the bottom. I had thought this was plastic acrylic and am pleased to see that it is metal and will hold up over time. With a lot of force, it can be bent, but will not bend during regular use.

There is only 1 piece. The triangular one is not included. I even received a replacement and there was just the one piece. Still, it works well.

Functional, lightweight, good solid quality

Okay, I love this Ateco 1447 comb! Super easy to use and gives my cakes that clean, professional look with zero stress. I use it to smooth and evenly distribute ganache or buttercream, and the different edges make it fun to get creative. It's sturdy, easy to grip, and way better than the flimsy plastic ones. Pros: Durable, precise lines, cleans easily. Cons: Not super flexible—definitely more for straight edges. If you're into clean finishes or love baking content, this tool is it.

This decorating comb and icing smoother is awesome. I do not know how I have ever made a cake without it (actually, I do, it is has been a very unsmooth cake, delicious, but not always pretty). I only needed the flat side, but I had to see what the other side did as well, and the ridge look is also very cool. It did not go with the particular theme of the cake I was working on, but I will DEFINITELY be using this for every cake I make in the future. My cake was only three layers, so it worked fine length wise. However, I did not level the top of my cake, so it was a bit difficult to get the top and sides smooth together. That is definitely a user error though, not an issue with this tool.

I received the square comb, the triangle was missing, the square comp worked fine.

Love it! It has made my cakes look so much more professional. Although I cook and bake for my job, I am not a professional cake baker. I am trying to improve the look of my cakes and the ATECO Decorating Comb & Icing Smoother has made my cakes look great! I get nice smooth sides and the ridged edges give me the look I need for the ocassion. I found a neat trick when smoothing the sides...I wet the ATECO and the frosting does NOT pull away from the side of the cake! After I finish smoothing the icing, I pop the cake into the cooler to solid up the icing, and that makes it perfect for piping the decorative additions. It washes right up, goes in the dishwasher if you want, all in all, I don't know HOW manages without the tool.

I'm so happy with this hose, it's high quality. I bought 2 of them. It reacts immediately when I turn un off the water.

Don’t buy anything else !!! I am wondering why I haven’t bought this before . I have 10 different cake smoothers but this one is the only one who really do the job ! I absolutely love it !!

Had high expectations. But edges are so sharp and its very inconvenient to hold it at 45D while icing. Also the sharp edge scrapes the cake board.

It's a great tool. But it had lots of scratches and it looked old/used.
