Q: can it fit a ceiling that is only 7 & 1/2 foot tall

In order to fit your 7-1/2' ceiling you will have to eliminate one section of the top most post. This is the spring-loaded part that supports the unit at the ceiling. It comes in two sections that just snap together. Leave the top section off, attach the black pad to the top of the lower section and it should work just fine.

Q: How tall is this. What is the height

Why are some of the posts saying it goes all the way to the ceiling and dimensions are given as 38" high assembled?

Q: Can you fit men's shoes on this rack or is it just for women's shoes?

Each section of the rack is fully adjustable up and down and can fit Mens, womens, and kids shoes.

Q: Would this be able to accommodate size 16 shoes?

You could put them on there but you would need to space them out on the tier and you would not be able to use all of the tiers. I wear a size 12w womens shoe and I can use all of the racks on the tiers and all of the tiers but just barely. I had to be very careful on the tier placement and what kinds of shoes were next to each other to maximize my space. It is a very good shoe rack.
