Get Over Your Damn Self: The No-BS Blueprint to Building a Life-Changing Business

foundation of knowledge for network marketing based businesses
Best suited for the MLM crowd, where one has to put forth the social energy to get the ball rolling on building a career of it. Some MLMs have a lot of training material, others fall short. Some are terrible and give MLM its bad reputation (cold calls, cold messaging, all about the business or sale and never about anything else). Some a great (build relationships, don't ever push, don't sell but teach/inform, let people come to you, etc). So Regardless of which you are in, it is good to have additional information to learn from (or to have reinforced).I know I know, MLMs are baaaaaad. Or are they? Depends on what it is and what the company culture is like- as with any business- public or private. But if your business or intent is based in network marketing, then gather as much info as possible. And if you are doing so by looking into business books about networking, then likely you are in an MLM or are building your own brand. Since this is the age of Influencers, a book like this is a fantastic foundation for learning about yourself and the general ins and outs of networking marketing model.I've read several, usually in electronic format as I didn't plan to ever refer back to them. This title though, this one is worth having in print to be able to take notes and look back on for refreshers. It is a decent foundation piece.I like that it is written by a woman, and it appeals to a women audience. Anyone can benefit. It is honest, brutal, clearly explained, full of relevant examples, and feels intimate enough to feel like you are in a small audience (or 1 on 1) with the writer. She just explains a lot of what you want to know, or manages to answer questions you likely had forming. It is a robust read, but not repetitive or arduous. It moves along at a quick pace as she keeps on point and uses real time language. She doesn't assume everyone has a business degree (I happen to), and so she makes the information widely accessible. There are 16 chapters. They address topics such as tackling your personal intent- like, why are you here.. and although people fail, it isn't going to be you. She then goes into making lists, short and long term goals, rules of reaching out, building relationships and teams, building a personal story (what to include, what to leave out), how to close, how to handle objections, how to get over the BS we tell ourselves, and various other aspects about taking care of ourselves, others, and our growing business etc.

Couldn't get through it fast enough
I am in direct sales so I thought this would be a helpful read since it's specific to the industry. I read A LOT of books, particularly self-help or how-to books, and one of the most important factors is connecting with the author: feeling like she or he is writing to you while inspiring you to follow the lessons in the book. I felt like Romi tried, but she fell short. She isn't shy about being very proud of herself and her accomplishments, coming off as boastful at times. She makes it clear in the first page, and the last, that writing a book has been her lifelong dream, and it almost feels like she just wrote it to write it.Throughout the book, she outlines how she came to earn 6 figures. Or was it 7? She threw out 6 and 7 so many times I couldn't keep track. She makes it a point in her first chapter to tell the reader that we must be coachable, meaning following the steps if we want to earn that kind of money. Otherwise, it's not going to happen. I'm glad she does this at the beginning because at least she's giving us the option to close the book from the start. But I was hopeful I might find something useful so I kept reading. Her approach (as she says) is very simple: Share your business with every single person you know (not exaggerating), then use every single person you know as a referral source, then get them to buy your products/services. She writes out detailed scripts to every possible scenario of recruiting and helping your team recruit. The three-way phone calls, the follow-up, the push back, the hundreds of questions to ask when people say No, the guilt. It's intense.I was honestly surprised by some of her tactics. I started to wonder if I would even be allowed to be on her team if I wasn't willing to do all that work. Even if I was just okay making a few hundred here and there. The MLM I work with doesn't pressure you or make you feel guilty about selling or recruiting. I always wondered why some people hate MLMs; now I can see why.Halfway through the book, I had a headache from reading it. I couldn't shake the negative feeling the book was giving me. I actually hopped on Amazon to read the reviews to see if I was the only one who felt this way. There are some negative reviews, but honestly most of them were because they didn't know it was about MLM (not sure why b/c it's in the Amazon product description), and that there's too much swearing. She does throw out quite a few cuss words but I mean come on, she uses "Damn" in the title of the book. But I kept reading. For some strange reason, I had to see how this thing played out. Maybe it gets better, I thought. It did not. I actually found myself skimming through the last couple chapters. I don't know if it's her style of writing or the layout of the book, but it really didn't flow. There were so many times I thought she could have used bullet points or boxes or something to break up the pages. I dunno. I gave the book two stars because I did highlight a couple words of wisdom. She ends the book with a five page "Acknowledgments" section. Five pages. I think she needs to get over her damn self.

If you’re showing up and doing the work but not seeing success this book is for you.
This is one of the rare reviews from a “dude” reading Get Over Your Damn Self. I picked up a copy of Romi’s book and was hooked right away. Although written to the female reader (over 75% of our industry) as a guy, I feel it is written for men as well.So many people get involved in our industry with false hopes that they can just “put hours in” and they’re guaranteed success. That’s not the way it works in network marketing. We have a very simple “not easy” but simple business model. It’s different from what we learn in school and the corporate world though.Romi does an amazing job simplifying what it actually takes to succeed in our industry. Definitely worth the read but more importantly, impliment what she teaches! If you’re showing up and doing the work but not seeing success this book is for you. You’re going to learn that your posture and your personal power BEHIND the actions is the missing piece. And then you’re going to learn how to walk in your power and posture yourself.

Inspiring
I knew that I was holding myself back in many aspects of life, but I didn’t really know how to cut free from my worst roadblock; me. This book has given me a LOT of food for thought. Loved the narrative coming across like constructive criticism, love and support from a dear friend. The chapter on fear, yes! Going to read the whole book again.

This is a book about Network Marketing and not a general business book.
Absolutely dire. This author has a successful network marketing business in which she recruits largely women to sell her products. There is nothing wrong with that. The Book is very much written to this audience. If you are a woman who wants to get into network marketing this might be a useful read.If you are a general business reader, it is really not a relevant book in any way.
