This is a great book. All around thumbs up. I've bought more than 1 copy too, since I know people who can use it but won't buy it themselves (sigh). Christy writes in an easy to follow way and all of her information is useful. There's an index too and while most books have them, not all do and this one has helped me out a lot. You don't have to read the book from cover to cover but as I'm slowly finding out, it probably would have helped me out this year if I had done that before I planted my garden. I'm not a novice gardener either but I'm a novice at dealing with problems so this book really helped me out when I didn't know where else to go.My Dad, who's been gardening longer than probably Christy and I combined have been gardening, is now reading the book and he's appreciating it, even though he knows a lot of the information already. But he doesn't know it all so he's finding parts that are useful for him.Please note, if you haven't figured this out for yourselves already, that many of the people who work in the garden departments of the big box stores really don't know a lot about gardening or the products they sell... You need to get REAL advice and information and this is a great place to get it!

I had no idea where to start when it came to growing my own food. Sure I read stuff online but I needed a beginners guide. A friend of mine recommended this book and it was super helpful. The book walked me through every step as I started my first vegetable garden - from soil testing, DIY raised bed builds and even composting advice. If you're starting out, this is a perfect book to get and it even references other helpful books. There are other advanced chapters which I have not implemented just yet. I also found the author online at her website. She answered some of my followup questions. That was another plus!

I have been gardening for the past ten years and I have read many books on the subject. I found this book full of great information explained in a very simple way to understand. Especially great for beginners but still new ideas for those who already garden.I like the fact it explains all the extra things you can be doing to enrich your soil in an organic manner. No man made chemicals for me.I will be referring to this book for years to come!

great for really beginner level i guess and it looks at the geeky side but it is not very useful if what you are interested is growing your own food. dont get me wrong, it may have technical info most other books dont but it is at best a secondary or tertiary level book for someone who has 10+ useful gardening and fruit books!

I love this book by Christy. It is my go to garden book. I bought it to help me establish my own urban garden. I have purchased many garden books over the years and still end up with questions. Not this one. It answers everything. I had the pleasure of meeting Christy a while back and am so glad I did. Her garden knowledge is amazing. She's such an inspiration.

While my interest is mainly as an urban gardener, this book is full of very useful information for any type of garden. Clear explanations and detailed instructions/illustrations make this guide special - as well as entertaining. Kudos for putting together something so many beginning or more advanced gardeners can make use of. I highly recommend it!

This book was a gift, for my dad. He has since learned how to garden more efficiently and properly. This book opened up a new door for him to continue gardening

I can't wait to try out some of Christy's ideas. Soil preparation, composting, raised beds, dealing with bugs, verticle gardening--I want to read the book from cover to cover. It is written in a clear, understandable way and the author's enthusiasm makes me want to get outside and start right now!

Great book for beginning with. 5/5 and all that jazz.
