A fineliner (or "porous point") is like a marker, but with a harder and smoother tip. It's more of a writes-on-anything instrument (compared to ceramic balls which don't handle slightly touched paper well), but feels smoother than a typical marker for more pleasant writing.I don't know how much of the price is Schmidt's ego vs. the fact that few sellers carry these in large quantities, but there isn't any sensible reason why these should cost more than a rollerball.Cross makes a similar refill in their proprietary shape (also absurdly priced), but their tip material is somewhat smoother than Schmidt's.

Miss the Sharpie Retractable pens? Use these and turn a retractable g2 gel pen like the Dr. Grip into a retractable fine liner. They do dry out faster than the Sharpie given that it’s exposed to air in the retractable tip, but a game-changer none the less until a company comes out with a different version.

I use this for my more expensive pens. It writes as well as the very expensive refills. I am pleased with my purchase!

These are great fiber tip refills. Springy tip, good dark ink, good flow. These refills fit many pens that use "standard" rollerball refills.
