Excellent WAP for home or small business
Ignore the negative reviews - this is a very solid product that only requires a modicum of networking knowledge to set up properly. You have to change the IP address of the machine you are setting the ECB350 up from initially to be on the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet (any IP from 2 to 254) and then connect to 192.168.1.1. Login with username "admin", password "admin", then go straight to System-->IP Settings, and set the IP to be on your own LAN network, or just use DHCP. The problem with DHCP is that you will then need to know the Ethernet MAC address of the ECB350, and then look at the DHCP client list in your router or server to determine what the IP address is. Static is the best way to go, that way you always know the address of your ECB350. After you set the IP to an address that is on your network, you will need to undo the previous changes to your machine's IP address, putting it back on your LAN subnet, and then connect to the new IP of the ECB350 to finish configuration.I had this thing up and running in 5 minutes, and that included cloning my previous SSID and settings to it (in manual fashion and from memory) so that all 9 or so of my wireless devices didn't have to be reconfigured. It was EASY, and anyone who says it is hard needs to just go buy a D-Link or Linksys with the handy little setup utility, or get help from someone who knows what they are doing. Stop dinging a perfectly good (great even) product for your own lack of knowledge - seriously. The range on this thing is amazing. I had intended to upgrade the antennas with a couple of 9 dBi Alfa Wireless units I have, and it would just be overkill. I get full signal in every room of my house, and get a useable (-80 dBm) signal at least 75 feet from my house in all directions - and that with the output power on 20 dBm. (Note: My house is full brick, so that is good.) The ECB350 also has tons of useful features for small or even medium business networks like VLAN support, WPS, SNMP, and log export to a Syslog server. One other thing I noticed is how cool the ECB350 runs compared to my previous WAP, a D-Link DWL-2100AP. The D-Link got really hot, and while I used it daily for 6 years, it might have never failed had it been more efficient. The D-Link used a 5v 2a power supply, and the ECB350 uses a 12v 1a power supply. The D-link was only 15 dBm output, whereas the ECB350 maxes at 29 dBm (I am running it at 22 currently). So, all things being equal, I would expect the ECB350 to run hotter, since resistance (and heat) increases as you increase voltage, which would seem to indicate the ECB350 might have a more efficient design. The point being, I would expect the ECB350 to be more reliable, since it runs cooler, and component life should increase, thus increasing the life of the device as a whole. It also means it would operate well in closets or other locations where cooling is a secondary consideration. So, you'll pay a little more than some of the cheaper brands, but you get a reliable, easy to use, powerful, efficient and feature-rich WAP that will serve your needs now and in the future. Are you still reading? Buy this thing! It rocks!UPDATE 10/04/2013 - Still going strong. I did eventually slap the 9dBi antennas on it, and now I get full signal everywhere, on all devices. This is a great product, and I strongly recommend it if you are in need of a good WAP.UPDATE 10/17/2014 - One year on, and 0 issues. Have moved to a larger, three level home, and had to bump the output up to cover the whole place. Very satisfied with this purchase, and for the current price, it's a steal.

Great Range - Fast - Super Tech Support
I have a WAN in my garage office that is all wired from an ZyXel bonded DSL router. I ran a ethernet cable to the house and terminated at a Netgear 8 port gigabit switch. I wanted to use WIFI in the house for phones etc so I installed a Sabrent 300 MBPS WIFI Repeater. The house is about 65 feet wide. The Sabrent only went about 1/2 way, was super slow and kept dropping the connection. I did some Googling and found EnGenius. Their sales person was very patient with me and gave me all of the options. I purchased the ECB350. I run Mac OSX. You need to hook the ECB350 directly to your computers ethernet port to program it. The programming is done in your browser at 192.168.1.1 which is also your router's IP so you can not program it by hooking into your network. You do have to mess a bit with your OSX network settings so you can initially connect. The manual (on CD) does a very clear job of showing you exactly how to do it with good screen shots. You can set the 350 up in one of 8 modes. In my case the mode I should have used was Access Point. I did something stupid and accidentally chose AP Router mode instead. (this is where the manual was a bit hard to understand for me) That turned out to be a problem because once I applied the setting to the 350 I was no longer able to access it with the browser. I figured OK I'll do a hard reset, call tech support and start over. I looked for the little reset hole in the back and found none! UGH... So I called tech support (which I should have done first). Their Tech Support is just as outstanding as their sales folks!!! So once the technician calmed me down and determined I needed to set up the AP mode he told me we would have to do a hardware reset. This was where something kind of funny happened. He said just press a paperclip into the small hole in the back by the power plug for 1 full minute. Well I said there is no hole just a yellow label that says something about the power plug written in type so small I can't read it. Turns out the label had been accidentally applied over the reset hole and also covered the word reset just under the hole. Once we laughed a bit about that I did the reset. The reset takes 1 FULL minute and do not cut it short if you have to perform it yourself. ONE FULL MINUTE..Longer is OK but NO shorter.Result was amazing. 75% power at farthest points on all floors of the house. Extremely fast and NO dropped connections.Very happy!!
