About the Artist 'Nita Whitaker's story reads like the perfect Rhythm & Blues fairy tale, complete with church-grown beginnings, relocating from the deep South to Hollywood, and finding success in her pursuit of both music and acting careers. Her destiny was clear from age three, when in 'Nita's hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana her mother stood her on the offering table at church and 'Nita delivered a thrilling rendition of "Yes, Jesus Loves Me." Her father, who for over two decades perfomed in a singing group called the Spiritual Jubilee, formed a touring gospel group to showcase 'Nita and her two sisters, and 'Nita's career was underway. While earning her nursing degree at Northwest Louisiana University, 'Nita studied opera and took top prizes in state opera competitions before being crowned Miss Louisiana in 1984. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue her musical career and became a backup vocalist with Ben Vereen. 'Nita performed throughout Southern California and her formidable combination of emotion, beauty and stage presence led to numerous acting offers. In 1992, after actor/executive producer Kevin Costner heard her amazing David Foster-produced demo of the eventual Whitney Houston hit "I Have Nothing", she was given the role of Academy Awards singer Sondra Castle in the mega-hit film "The Bodyguard." That same year, 'Nita became Grand Champion of Star Search after an amazing record-breaking thirteen week winning streak! That success motivated her to focus on her music and recording, which led to the release of her solo debut CD - "'Nita." AWESOME
This is an AWESOME CD! I bought this CD for one song only, "Heaven Holds The Ones I Love" and after listening to the other songs fell in love with the enitre CD. Whitaker's voice is very soothing and relaxing. The words to her songs are inspiring, uplifting and spitirual without being preachy.HEAVEN HOLDS THE ONES I LOVE is a must for anyone who has lost a loved one. ONE VOICE reminds everyone that we are one people, one race, one family and how not only how America should be but the entire world. EYES OF A CHILD makes you remember what it was like to be a child, when you looked at everything innocently and the way that you wished you still viewed the world. WHEN MOUNTAINS WON'T MOVE is spiritual yet not preachy, it's a refreshing look at how to overcome problems you are facing. These are my top songs on the CD. I'm looking forward to hearing more from Whitaker!

Beautiful album. The song "Heaven Holds the ones I Love" is so beautiful and I have given it to many of my greaving friends after the loss of a Loved one.

Songs Message/Idea was good, but lacked the DEEP SOUL needed....Like Church choir all singing Together, but if One has gone THRU the EXPERIENCE- how different the SOUND!

Almost incomparable voice, very good album
The really good songs in this album are elevated to emotional, moving experiences due to Nita's voice and love for what she does. No one takes a song and makes it her own and elevates the notes and lyrics to levels that bring tears, smiles, memories, so many other emotions to the treated listener. I can only compare the quality of her voice to the likes of Barbra, Celine and other memorable voices of that stature.

A Voice That Must Be Heard!
I picked up Nita Whitaker's ONE VOICE while browsing in a local record store's "vocalists" section last weekend. Had never heard of Ms. Whitaker, but the cover photo caught my attention. Had it in my car's CD player before I even got out of the parking lot. What a voice indeed!She sings with assurance and a real way with phrasing and mood. You can hear resemblances, at least to my ear, of Donna Summer and Patti Austin. Not that her voice sounds just like theirs, but her style reminds of them. The production is smooth and well-matched to her voice. The strings section is a nice touch in a couple of the songs.There are both uptempo songs, as well as several great ballads, which I think are the high points. Especially the songs UNTIL NOW, SENDING OUT A PRAYER, and THAT'S WHEN I'LL BE THERE.I'll definitely seek out more artists from this independent label, and hopefully Ms. Whitaker brings us more of her songstress stylings soon!"sending out my applause" to you, 'Nita Whitaker...

Stunning album that needs to be discovered
I first saw Nita Whitaker perform on Star Search about 10 years ago. She won every competition and eventually became the grand champion. I remember thinking that she was such a natural performer...a classy lady with a powerful expresive voice an incredible stage presence. I was so glad to discover this new album which shows that she has only improved with age, if improvement was even possible. The album covers everything from jazz to gospel to power ballads such as "Sending Out A Prayer" and "Heaven Holds the Ones I Love" which are my 2 favorites. No matter how many times I play them, I still get goosebumps. Nita is a rising star...and not many "Shine" as bright as hers.

Beautiful and deeply emotional...
On my flight from the States I listened to four of her songs from her album "One Voice". Those were provided to me by United Airlines' board stereo system. The songs I heard including e.g. "Heaven holds the ones I love" were very passionate and deeply emotional. The lyrics almost brought me to tears. Nita Whitaker has a great voice and her melodies are fascinating. Listening to her for the first time made me grab a pen to write down her name. I immediately thought about ordering the CD, which happens very rarely. I can't wait to listen to all the songs...
