good little unit
good little unit. adding a rheostat to it tonight/tomorrow, though. Me being me, I cracked it open. It uses two 12v computer enclosure fans to do the pushing, and it's adequate for the purpose. I'm using mine as an 'under the cap' p/u truck bed heater for the dogs while traveling in cold areas. the heat is generated with an eberspacher hydronic d5, which is thermostatically controlled- allowing the truck to pre-heat, or, maintain a determined temperature. The idea is to maintain the bed temperature somewhere well north of freezing while the ambient outside temperature can drop well under 0*f... this is being operated off stored energy (while stationary/not running) which is why I selected this product over others- energy consumption being important to the dogs and all, or even me if I find myself housed with them as a result of running afoul of domestic policy.at any rate, my first inclination was to cut the wires to one of the fans to, effectively, half the consumption. I'll give the rheo a shot first, though. It's nowhere near as quiet as I would have expected. it's flat loud. that's good that it's moving air, but bad for annoyance. Again, this is something that can be addressed with a speed control or eliminating one of the fans.mine is mounted almost level with the trucks degas bottle- which makes purging air a royal PITA. If you are installing it anywhere within a foot (lower) of the vehicles highest coolant level (usually the radiator cap or degas bottle) be aware you'll need to purge that air, and it's not gonna want to come out of there. I used an airlift tool on the engines degas and couldn't coax it out, so I ended up using the same airlift on a hose end I pulled off... I may end up putting an additional expansion tank in the bed adjacent the core, just to manage the air. I share this so you folks doing something similar know what you're up against.

The computer fans are high RPM and have an irritating sound,
After 2 years I replaced this unit with one that cost double and I am happy I did it, no more noise and 10 times the heat output so my thermostat only kicks the fan on for 2 minutes every 15 minutes. I had to run this unit constant to heat my van and it barely kept up.
