Q: What's the main ingredient for this item?

Interestingly, the rest of the pool/spa industry, and all of the competitor products, use "Sodium Carbonate" for increasing pH . . . Sodium Bicarbonate (aka Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate), which is what's printed on this bottle, is used by everybody else to increase Alkalinity (and minimally pH). I think this bottle is either labelled incorrectly, or they are using the wrong chemical. If you look at Leisure Time's "Alkalinity Increaser" you'll find it's Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate, which is the same as this stuff, but by a different name.

No. It increases Ph and Alkalinity. Type in Spa/Pool shock and you'll see what you need.
