What Color is the Wind? is an interactive sensory book for kids with beautiful illustrations and a simple, engaging story. A blind child questions all he encounters––a dog, wolf, elephant, mountain, bird, stream, and tree––about the color of the wind. Each responds differently, with a shape, color, smell, texture, or idea. Each page displays a visual and tactile palette of cutouts, textures, and the pictures that tell the story. Tactile and prodigious in the materials used, this book engages the reader fully, bodily, in an exploration through which they discover the wind as smell, taste, movement, sound, and color. A staple of nature discovery camps and teaching rubrics about the natural world, this is a book through which all children can immerse in their senses and discover much delight! Review: Amazing, beautiful, poetic - Amazing, beautiful, poetic, moving! Yes, I loved this book. Definitely read the blurb. Even the blurb is beautifully written and explains the essence of the book perfectly. The lovely, textured, modern illustrations compliment the beautiful words perfectly. You can enjoy this book with both your eyes and hands. In fact, my daughter and I closed our eyes and explored the book with only our hands. Definitely gives you a different view. There is a single Braille word on the cover. I looked up a Braille alphabet and my daughter and I deciphered it. I will not spoil it for you so you can enjoy figuring it out yourself. Really great book. Review: Asking the important questions - E.E. Cummings wrote: "Always the beautiful answer who asks a more beautiful question." This is a beautiful question: "what color is the wind?" In asking it we re/discover a childlike desire to know the world, and in the knowing, deepen our appreciation of the world around us. This is a delightful story of curiosity and inquiry.

A great special book for children as well as for adults. The best praise for the book came to me from my two and a half year old granddaughter: " now I know what color is the wind!"
