Q: What type of ornaments do people use. Since the tree is small, I'm thinking of getting miniature ornaments as my standard look a bit big.

I used small red shiny bulbs and silver coated mini pine cones and it looks kind of elegant.

Q: What size and how many batteries are required for the lights? Does the tree come with batteries?

It takes 3 double A batteries. It’s been a couple of years since I bought it but I don’t think it came with batteries. I also added an extra string of lights because I like a lot of them. It’s so easy to do now and you can get the mini strings that are battery operated and come with remotes.
