It is not soft. It has stiff hard wire.

Q: Is there a secret to turning on the timer?

It is automatic set for 6 hours, when you press the button it begins the 6 hr time. Hope this is helpful.

Q: Are the lights already throughout the garland or do you have to place them yourself?

The lights are already attached to the garland. I hung mine with command hooks and then also attached the battery pack to the wall with a command hook sticky (not the hook itself). I have approx 5 total pounds of ornaments hanging on the garland. It’s staying up! So far, so good!

Q: How do you get the lights to turn off? The lights aren't turning off.

I put mine on the timer so they go off automatically!!
