What is the difference between a patch holder and a "jag", which is preferred?

A patch holder holds a piece of cloth to run inside the barrel. It can be used with many different calibers, this model works with .22 thru .45. A Jag is sized to have a tight fit with the cleaning cloth in one specific caliber. I generally use both when cleaning, the patch holder first, to loosen deposits in the barrel. Then the jag to deep clean. Then the patch holder again to oil the barrel.

Does this patch holder fit Tipton Rods

I have Hope rods. I do not know. I think rods they do universal holder and could fit any holders and cleaning kit.

Will this thread onto a Hoppes cleaning rod?

It should; I don't think I used an adaptor. Most cleaning rods are universal but sometimes you need an adaptor depending on caliber. Usually there is a size for most handguns and a different one for shotguns and larger caliper rifiles.

Will this fit the brass cleaning rod in real avid gun boss pro cleaning kit?

The Patch fixture is universal with a size 8 thread shank & 32 tpi, Universal means it fits 99.98% of all cleaning rods & kits that's sized SAE. However; Some metric sized kits might present a problem if only one size comes in the kit & its not universal. Also, the smallest bore size is 22 cal for that attachment & 177 & 20 cal air rifles/pistols are too small a bore for that item to fit.
