This no-nonsense guide provides students and self-learners with a clear and readable study of trigonometry's most important ideas. Tim Hill's distraction-free approach combines decades of tutoring experience with the proven methods of his Russian math teachers. The result: learn in a few days what conventional schools stretch into months. Teaches general principles that can be applied to a wide variety of problems. Avoids the mindless and excessive routine computations that characterize conventional textbooks. Treats trigonometry as a logically coherent discipline, not as a disjointed collection of techniques. Restores proofs to their proper place to remove doubt, convey insight, and encourage precise logical thinking. Omits digressions, excessive formalities, and repetitive exercises. Covers all the trigonometry needed to take a calculus course. Includes problems (with all solutions) that extend your knowledge rather than merely reinforce it. Contents 1. A Few Basics 2. Radian Measure 3. The Trig Functions 4. Trig Values for Special Angles 5. Graphs of Trig Functions 6. The Major Formulas 7. Inverse Trig Functions 8. The Law of Cosines (and Sines) 9. Solutions 10. Trig Cheat Sheet About the Author Tim Hill is a statistician living in Boulder, Colorado. He holds degrees in mathematics and statistics from Stanford University and the University of Colorado. Tim has written self-teaching guides for Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Precalculus, Advanced Precalculus, Permutations & Combinations, Mathematics of Money, and Excel Pivot Tables. When he's not crunching numbers, Tim climbs rocks, hikes canyons, and avoids malls. Review: no unnecessary filler, just essential Trig - I took trig nearly 20 years ago. I needed a refresher for an engineering class. This book is awesome. It uses proofs when useful, and doesn't bother with excess "math fat." The language is clear and concise. If you need a LOT of practice problems you might want to add another guide, but this is perfect for reacquainting oneself with trig functions. Thank you Mr. Hill. Review: Excellent tutorial. Crisp and to the point. - Nice crisp presentation. Not much hand-holding here. Excellent for quick review. I found that using this for review ALONG with "The Humongous Book Of Trigonometry Problems" worked for me.

Simple and powerful
I was excited to discover a book that had such a good explanation of the concepts of Trigonometry. Tim Hill deserves a lot of credit for presenting the topic in such a great way. Many books go on for pages trying to explain Trigonometry and leave the reader clueless of the essential concepts. This book goes straight for the concepts making it brief, but offering a deep understanding. Exactly the kind of math explanations that are most useful to me - a math amateur looking to brush up and master core concepts.

The ultimate cram book that has everything you need to understand the topic of geometry
Everything you need to understand Geometry is in this thin little book. You have to apply your brain to understand it but the premise of understanding is here.

Not bad not good
Terse, tiny, over-priced. It is a good memory refresher, but too abstract and terse for self-study. This book has an opinionated introduction and a rather careless tone. It seems more like someone's personal notes than a book intended for an audience. It fails to be as its description implies. I regret ordering this before a more complete book with examples of when trigonometric functions are used. A more complete book would have encouraging help.

Good overall book
Good book to get one started. Still can't replace taking the course.

It's complicated
I bought this book to supplement the Higher Maths that I am studying. By Chapter 3 I am struggling to answer the problems! Admittedly the answers are provided, along with explanations as to how the answers are reached, For what is supposed to be a Self-Teaching guide it's very short on simple explanation.

A good book to get a summary of the most important concepts of trigonometry
This book will provide you the most important concepts to begin tackling trigonometry. It doesn't give you exercises. One important feature: The author shows you where some formulas come from. This is primordial to favor understanding and minimize memory.

A great book for teaching yourself every concepts clearly.
I wasn't sure about it before buying because it was costly and exceeding my budget. But after buying I can tell you it's totally worth it. The book is very easy to understand and now I can bridge the gap which was made because I didn't study in earlier standards. My conceptions are totally clear now.
