Pretty simple pretty cool. SEE UPDATE...
I'm using the 1x2s but 2x4s fit just as well. The base is heavy as well as stable. Lots of possibilities for target hanging or mounting! A few have suggested the 2x4s or 1x2s fit loosely but for it's just fine. There are a few nail or screw holes if you wish to secure more tightly. Update: Was windy shooting today so had to use some rocks to stabilize. I will add some outriggers to avoid that next time out. I brought both 2x4 and mounted my targets to cardboard between two 1x2s. I taped the 1x2 to the 2x4s and was rock steady in terms of mounting into the base. Overall worked great!

Great Target Stand
Great target frame stand. Made from sturdy steel with a heavy powder coat. Nice. It went together very easily (just bolts to hold the cross arms on, easy. I got two straight pine 2x4's and just cut them an even height. Then used a couple of simple brackets to make a top and bottom cross bar. I then used an old yard sale 24" sign and just screwed it to the frame. Voila! I would recommend bolts or screws in the bottom where the holes are as it will keep it more stable. You can also use the dimensional furring strips if you prefer. I like the 2x4 option as it will last longer. The furring strips tend to disintegrate if you hit them too many times. A good value and good product!

Missing 1 helpful part...missing 1 star
Okay.. the description and pictures don't elude to this being included and overall very happy. But it could be so much better! First the good: I like the fixed (non adjustable) width. They are solid and stable! What could be better? I am used to buying similar from Midway, but they kill me on shipping, so was pleased (and a little over zealous) to get these. What are they missing? Any way to stabilize the 1x2 or 2x4 in their slots. The Midway has a welded nut and a screw knob, tighten down the boards once inserted. Which is great since the slots are "big" comparatively. These just have empty holes, no threads, no screw handle.. just floppy boards. Maybe just fine with paper targets. Beware of using hooks and steel. The wobble will knock it over. I ended up welding my own, screw knobs aren't cheap in my area, so probably spent as much if I'd bought from Midway in the first place.

Perfect for an outdoor range.
This great for the range, especially at mine which doesn't have a dedicated pistol range. 2x4's tend to make it a little top heavy while 1x2's are subject to the wind knocking it over, but it has holes at the base and I used tent stakes to secure it and works like a charm. Assembly is a no brainer, has four bolts with washers and nuts which you can use a wrench or a phillips screwdriver to tighten. 19" wide is perfect for most targets, I use 8" splatter targets and am able to place them two wide and ever how many you want vertical (I did two wide and two high), depends how you cut your backer board. I just used Amazon boxes, have plenty of those lol. All in all it's a great portable target stand. I would recommend this to any avid shooter or hunter.

Order it already, it’s awesome
This stand is well built and sturdy even on uneven ground. It holds 2 2x4’s And 2 1x2’s directly behind it which gives you tons of options for targets. I put 2 hangers on the top of the 2x4’s and put 8” ar500 gongs on them with a 12x20 ar500 silhouette target hung from chain between them and a paper splatter bullseye target on the 1x2’s above them secured with staples. Lots to shoot at and a ton of fun. I used screws through the provided holes to secure the lumber into the stand but you don’t have to, infact if you had a small car you could remove the boards to break in down. I bought some cheap furniture levelers on Amazon that screw right through holes in the base legs to keep the painted base off the ground (gravel At closet public range to me) Best I have found, most versatile I have found and really a bargain. Must have

Cheap. Effective. I'm a fan.
This worked great for me, but I did use shims to hold the 2x4s in place firmly. This will be loose without a bolt or shim. It was sturdy and did exactly what I wanted. If anything, It could be a little wider, but that's a minor suggestion and not a complaint. My scouts even shot the base a couple time (dang kids), but it held up just fine.

Great Product at Good Price, nice to take own Targets
So glad I purchased this Target Stand. I build my own targets, and take them to the Range for faster shooting. This Target Stand has space for 2x4's or 1x1 targets. I started out with a 2x4 targets but quickly switched to 1x1 targets. The Target stand is easy to transport and to clean. I use large PEGS to secure the stand if there is any wind at the range. Great product at a good price.

Good stand at a good price
A no frills target stand that takes two sizes of lumber in the base holder. Well made. If shooting in the wind you will need stakes or weight to hold them up

Tweaks needed
Get some lock washers! Not included. Get lock washers or lose your bolts fairly quickly. Metal rusts immediately with outdoor exposure. If I bought again, I'd paint over original paint with a better quality paint.Otherwise does the job.
