McVities fruit shortcake. A delicious British shortcake biscuit with embedded currants. Great with a British cuppa. The original fruit shortcake cookie is sweet and delicious. Juicy currants and a sprinkling of sugar for the cookie connoisseur.

eating these for years
I have been eating these for years and never get tired of them. The only down side to these cookies is that its hard to put them down once you open the package. To me they are delicious and I personally can not open one without eating half the pack in one setting. These cookies go well with a good British tea.

A classic biscuit
The Mcvitie fruit Shortcake is a bit of a curiosity, you'd think Scotland, Mcvities and shortcake would be a match made in biscuit heaven but surprisingly its thin, crumbly, lacking in the fruit department and short of the shortening. It's not in the big league that digestives or hobnobs are in, but it's also not in the little league that the iced gems live in. Instead it occupies that middle ground that fig rolls, chocolate bourbons and garibaldi (named after an Italian general for some strange reason) take up. However that middle ground is where the real British biscuits live, the ones that don't get updated by covering in chocolate or the flashy commercials with owls and seals. The fact that the only commercial I remember was made 40 years ago, starring the actor peter vaughn that no one outside of the UK has heard of sums it up. If digestives are the biscuit of the people then the fruit Shortcake is the biscuit of the people that have a little less; the biscuit of the working class. A word of warning though, the fruit shortcake does not play nice when dipping in your tea or coffee, there's nothing worst than seeing a biscuit break and sink to the bottom of your cup stealing away that brief moment of what could've been but never will.Anyway get them they're delicious

Shrewsbury biscuit from childhood
Love them. So well wrapped in bubble wrap & positioned with air bag in box so that they arrived without being broken & crushed (was a bit worried as a previous review said theirs was crushed but they must have fixed this problem). I would have called them a Shrewsbury biscuit & was delighted to find them available.

McVites shortcake cookies/biscuits
I haven’t ever tried these cookies before, but I bought them because I was looking for a cookie with currants that would not be overly sweet. I have found them to be somewhat tasteless. They are not overly sweet, and I don’t taste the currants. It’s a disappointment. I have since bought Garibaldis, and I have found them to be very satisfying. Live and learn.

Delish
Just like I remember from childhood. My relatives would bring these from Scotland. Thin shortbread with bits of fruit. Simple and delicious.

Great for dipping in tea
pretty yummy and perfect for dipping in tea.-The downside: a lot of palm oil. Can't anyone make their food with local quality ingredients anymore?FYI: Palm oil is generally a telltale of a cheaply made product, and its generally not grown in a way that's good for the environment.Sidebar: It annoys me to no end when some purveyor of "gourmet" "chocolate" has palm oil in their chocolate. (harry and david, gurtrude hawk, ghirardelli, and many others) Apparently "gourmet" has come to mean "chocolate flavored vegetable oil" anyway, read the ingredients.
